everything, use a sword in one hand, descrution in the other. use bow to engage enemies first, while sneaking, then use your sword and spell combo, use restoration if youre low on health, and i suggest going into heavy armor instead of light since you can get the steed standing stone at lvl 1 which makes it so youre not slowed from armor and have 100+ carry weight. also disenchant alot, gives nice xp and enchaning is key late game. as well as do some smithing, do dwarven bows from dwarven scrap you find, then smelt it. you could also just buy all the leather and leather strips and just make leather braces up to like 60 smithing. < bassicly entire rundown of the game. you can make potions as well for gold but i dont like it

Dagger or 1H Sword and destruction magic in off hand as stated above. Whatever you see at a distance , hit em up with a bow in stealth so you get bonus damage. (skill points required for extra dmg in stealth)
OR
Dagger, or 1hSword in main, and either shielding spell, or restoration spell to gain back health.
Hotkeys are your friend

I would recommend using a sword and shield combo, it tends to be easiest to use. With magic, you have to worry about strategically using Magicka. But with a sword and shield, you can dish out damage, block, and attack while blocking to stun enemies. Being a thief/assasin is fun, it was my first class. All you have to do with that is be smart around your surrondings and use daggers/light armor. With two handed, you can run in and deal damage any way you want. But like I said earlier, sword and shield is the way to go for a new RPG player.

Anything you want. There's no "right" way to play Skyrim. Whatever you do, you get better at. So, find a play-style you find fun, and stick with it. Your skills will improve, and once you've mastered it, you can try something else. My first character was a Nord axe-man in heavy armour. He was a juggernaut of carnage, but he was about as stealthy as a bulldozer and his combat tactics basically consisted of "bash it until it stops moving."

My current character is a Khajiit archer. He's pretty much a glass cannon at the moment. He can put an arrow in a bandit's eye from across a canyon, but if heavy hitters spot him and get too close, he's a dead... cat. It's more challenging to play, but I find it far more entertaining.

I think Belanos ruined the other thread for him.
