SkyUI, Loot, Vortex Issues
Hey, I'm having some seriously annoying issues with SkyUI. I am using the newest version of SkyUI (5.2), Vortex to handle mods, and Loot. My problem is that although Vortex has SkyUI enabled and installed correctly, Loot will not put SkyUI in the load order. Loot will show the plugin for skyui, but will not have a number to the left. Ingame, the mod will not be activated and my game will not detect it. Skyui will appear in the in-game mod manager and I CAN manually enable it, but it will not work. The mod will detect it, but no changes will be made and the mod will not function. I have never had this issue before and I have used Vortex, SkyUI, and Loot all together with reliable results, so I don't want to hear about how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Vortex is or something because this is the first issue I've ever had with it. I haven't found alot on this problem online; some said to use xEdit to try to make it a masters but either it wont let me or I dont know how to do it. I also attempted to change dependency in Vortex itself (which Vortex actually is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ when it comes to load order) with no results. I have also tried using SkyUI 5.1 with the same problem. It is actually kind of odd; this issue popped up midgame for me without any mod changes. Sometimes if I deactivate all my other mods and try to reinstall several of them I can get SkyUI to enable, but I would lose several mods which shouldn't be necessary since it was working before. Any suggestions? Can I somehow force Loot to activate it?

Vortex has LOOT included, you don't need to use it separately. LOOT doesn't enable or disable mods; that's what Vortex, or another mod manager, are for. Are you running Skyrim through SKSE? SkyUI needs it, so if you run it straight from Steam SkyUI won't load.

In addition to what Zsrai says, the SkyUI modpage in the SSE section of nexusmods https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12604?tab=posts&BH=0 seems to describe other people having the same problem as you. The in-game mod menu apparently (as recently as nine days ago from the posts) disables SkyUI because it has no listed master. The sticky posts and discussion pages mention two possible solutions to this problem (I will describe them only generally because it is better and safer for you to read them yourself from the source). 1. In the SSE folder in appdata, manually edit the SkyUI's plugins text file or 2. Use SSEEdit to make Skyrim.esm a master for SkyUI. Both suggestions are repeated by people recognized as accomplished modders.

(BTW, my personal suggestion would be to not use the in-game mod manager at all. However, I don't use either the in-game menu or Vortex, so I can't usefully comment on how they interact.)

Hope you get things sorted out.

edited for spelling.

The in game mod "manager" sucks, don't use it and don't open it if you are using LOOT to sort your mod order (or at all, if you can help it). It has a bad habit of moving mods around.

I am using up-to-date SKSE. I will take a look at the responses on the Nexus page, so thanks for sharing the link.

Yeah, I have never used the in-game mod manager. It takes 10 years to load up and it is generally just BS. I've been considering downloading Oldrim for certain mods.

So I found a simple fix. Thanks to Zsrai for informing me that Vortex uses Loot built-in. All I did was uninstall Loot and the problem was resolved.
