Can't get skyui to work properly [SOLVED]
I've been trying to figure out what I've done wrong for over 2 hours now but i still can't figure it out. Yesterday i finally converted over to Special Edition from Legacy Edition and started rebuilding my load order and obviously, skyUI is a staple mod if you want to use a lot of the high quality mods out there but low and behold, its decided it wants to act out and not work for me, so i'm hoping i could get some help as the people on here likely know far more about modding than me.

I've installed SkyUI through vortex but it doesn't seem to work. i don't get any form of error message and whenever i boot up Skyrim SE through the SKSE loader, Vortex or even through steam itself the mod is disabled so i have to reactivate it inside the game, using the bethesda net load order options. But even then, it still fails to work upon starting a new game, and if i quit to desktop and restart Skyrim again, through any of the before mentioned clients it is once again disabled. it is listed as enabled inside of vortex.

At first i thought maybe i had improperly installed SKSE so i deleted it and installed it again, downloading the 'Current SE build 2.0.17 (runtime 1.5.97): 7z archive' from skse.silverlock.org and extracted it and merged it into the skyrim special edition directory, as i was instructed by a youtube tutorial, and when i type "getskseversion" into the console it says "SKSE64 version 2.0.17, release idx 64, runtime 01050610" which i think means it is installed correctly.

i've tried sorting my load order with LOOT but even when sorted it still is listed as disabled, as it lacks the green tick next to its name, which is listed as SkyUI_SE.esp if that's relevant.

Neither Vortex or LOOT have notified me of any incompatibilities or redundant files, and they used to be pretty good at pointing that stuff out when i used Legacy Edition.

It may seem simple, but did you enable and deploy SkyUI in Vortex?

So i heard that a problem with SkyUI can be caused when you try to use mods from vortex, and also bethesda net at the same time. The fix for this is to use SSEEdit to set Skyrim.esm as a master file for SkyUI and the problem seems to have fixed itself. admittedly this has now caused $ to appear in front of almost every piece of menu text, but that's a separate issue that ill start working on now.

Okay, next thing to do is remove the Bethesda mods and install them thru Vortex. Don't mix mod managers.

is it really that big of an issue? i used to use both vortex and the steam workshop and that was fine on LE. is steam different in some way? Or is it an issue with SE?

It's for the exact reason you created this thread. There isn't a Steam Workshop for SE, and having half your mods in the in game manager and half in Vortex will lead to confusion and ultimately problems like you just experienced.

Vortex can adopt mods (from Bethesda for SE/Workshop for LE), allowing it to manage them easily, you just can't update the adopted mods.

Some people say they have no issues with mixing Bethesda mods and Nexus mods, others do have problems, so it depends on who you ask.

But as everybody keeps saying SE doesn't have a workshop, if you have workshop mods in your load order they are LE/Oldrim mods. Unless you are unable to type Bethesda mods in your posts......

This and This = all true
You can now download a add-on for Vortex that allows you to dl Beth mods but can't update.

I am one of those people that uses Vortex and mix the 2 (nexus and beth, albiet I only have 2 beth mods) and have zero problems.

throw in one more "this" as there is no workshop for sse.

I guess I just don't see the value in not being able to manage adopted mods. Why not just reinstall them from Vortex so you can properly manage everything from one place?

Sorry, i probably should have made myself clearer, when i asked about workshop mods i was talking about when i used to use the workshop for LE (oldrim as you put it). obviously i don't use workshop mods now i've transitioned over to SE. i simply brought it up because i used both the workshop and vortex on LE, meaning i used mods from two differing sites, and it worked fine. i was wondering what is the difference between Vortex+bethesda on SE and Vortex+Workshop on LE, and if i was just lucky that i didn't hit a problem on LE. Sorry for any confusion.

Ah that makes sense.

It all depends on who you ask, some people do mix Nexus and Bethesda mods with no issues, others can't get their load orders sorted no matter what they do, it literally depends on who you ask.

ah i see. In that case ill probably continue as i am for now, and if do encounter any issues ill put them all on vortex. Thanks for the help.
