Sneak roll without having the perk?

Not sure if this is a bug or if it's been in Skyrim this whole time but I just discovered a way to do the Silent Roll without having the sneak skill perk. Jump while you're sneaking and then as you land immediately tap your sprint hotkey and you should do the roll without the perk. Kind of reminds me of Legend of Zelda where you can roll to avoid fall damage.

Hah! I had it happen to me many times but didn't figure out what I was doing. I do walk around sneaking a lot which also means I end up jumping while sneaking so I could see why this happened to me many times. Thanks for the explanation of it.
