Key to Saarthal?

I can't get in. It says I need a key but I can't see any other information on where to find it.
I did the other two locations for this quest but I just can't enter here at all.

Are you doing this through the college questline?

College of winterhold questline is the only way in. Only requires a little bit of stuff you have to sit through before you can enter tho.

I'm not sure where I picked up the quest to be honest.
It's called forbidden legend. I think I'm trying to find the parts of an amulet.

Something to do with a powerful draugr. The quest notes just say "what is his story" kind of thing

I'm about 50 hours in the game I think, haven't even been to winterhold yet

Enter with Tolfdir during the Winterhold questline, you can get it while on the quest.

I just finished getting the Staff of Magnus which is one of the quests from the college. This is a very long quest but is totally worth doing. You need to learn/concetrate on being a mage for the most part but can also do it with other abilites too. Loads of fun!!!

You dont rly need to be mage for it. You might need over 100 magicka for entry (bypassable by potion/basic spell cost reduction gear). Other then that u dont rly need to be speced into magic at all.

If you are doing the Gauldur amulet quest ( I assume) you just need to do the first quest of the Mage Guild (which requires minimum magic ability) to access Saarthal and get the piece of the amulet... takes maybe 10 minutes of dialogue at the college before you can go start the quest. After that you don't have to continue with the mage guild if you don't want. But the amulet is a must have item IMO, you will likely keep it equipped until you can enchant something better... which will be awhile.
