Hell yes.. You just need to make sure you have gear that buffs alchemy via enchanting. I have potions that Damage health/magicka/stamina 67 points per second for 10 seconds, ones that do 210 damage instantly, weakness to poison/magicka +70%, slow+paralysis for 45 seconds... it's a hassle to keep your weapons poisioned without SKUI, but that'll change soon. And that's not even counting the amazing buff potions you can make. Alchemy rules

Those numbers are without exploits? If so, seems awesome!

According to the UESP, slow doesn't work on an NPC unless they are sheathing their weapon, or their carry weight changes for some reason. Neither of which is likely to happen in a battle.

If nothing else you should raise it for smithing buffs. I don't even have my alchemy maxed yet and I'm getting smithing potions that let me increase my weapons 47% more then just my level 100 smithing. Coupled with enchantments you can get some pretty awesome numbers out of your gear with upgrades

I'm doing this, and even spent some perks on the tree. I'm wondering if I should spend points on the poison perks, not potions. :)

Many ingredients are farmable at a greenhouse/garden at which you can make potions and poisons out of them. I'd put all points in alchemy except for Experimenter. At the end it's worth it if you know what to do.
