Thats really not cool, I bought it on 9-28-2016. I'll contact steam support and see if they can help me. Its the only reason I bought the legendary edition. I had no idea it would have a steam code, I was just going by what was on Bethesda website that if you owned the legendary edition on PC you could upgrade for free.
If you bought it rhough a key site, they probably wont help you.
It was just I wasn't ready to play it and I opened it to realize that the code was a steam code inside. If I had known this I would have just registered it on 9/28/2016. Its just an unfortunate mistake on my part. But hopefully they can work this out somehow.
For future reference: Basically any modern game you buy as a physical copy will have a Steam key with it, required for the registration and playing, with a few exceptions.
With a legitimat copy, they might be able to helo you if you contact them and prove it, but really it's at Bethesda's discretion.
That really sucks. Hopefully you can still get some enjoyment out of the game, or wait for a sale :)
The news from 2016 called. They want their confusion back.
