Stuck in Ansilvnd Excavation

The dog eared worn out strat guide foe Skyrim v says the solution to the puzzle is SNAKE HHAWK WHALE SNAKE but I enter those and pull the lever and the gate does not open any ideas?

I have a dog eared old strat guide and it says whay I typed can ya just tell me if that is the wrong solution or what walls do I look at

Why do you need a strategy guide for this?
The answer isn't exactly hidden.

I bought the strat guide back when I bought the disk version of Skyrim because I am an old dude who is not to w=quick and slow reactions and memorey problems.....why am I telling you all this if you can't just tell me then ....I will have to dig up the info on how to open any door gate, or other things. It has taken me sevewral hours to get to this point and I am tired and I just want to get on with the game....if I could help another player with this type of problem I would without all the hassle...oh just forget the whole thing.....OK?

The puzzles in this game really aren't that complicated. Just take a look around and you should be able to figure it out on your own. The answer is always nearby.

how many times do have to say this i know the answer which is found in the strat guide purchased back mwhen I bought this game on disk brfore steam. now I know there are errors in the guide and the answer given may not be correct. is it so difficult to just tell me,,,,but then perhaps steam might not like that.

What games support? Just look up a walkthrough on Google. There's probably video on youtube showing somebody doing the puzzle. Throw that book into the recycling bin. It's a new dawn.

I know this is not something you would understand but In posts here I bought the game on disk 1 week after it was released along with the Strat guide( 600+pages 8 1/2" x 11" with very small print) I do not trust on line help unless it comes from the publisher or steam forums because more than once I have found solutions to various games from using google and I find youtube to be worthless.
I note by you avitar that you are new to steam and being of the "Age of Computers" generation you are comfortable with computers and the web, but I am not. Yes its a "New Dawn" for you and I wish that I was among your generation. Seeing 5 ywar olds multi tasking on a computer is an amazing site.
Please allow me to use sources that I am comfortable with. Printed maps and writen explanations are what I use. Do not judge others by what you believe and allow me the freedom to do the same

I don't supose you would be willing to at least tell me if any of the solution I stated are correct. I know that online and forums are the way today but they arenot comfortable with me. I will retrace my steps and If I find that the in game posted solution is not mine then I will retry but I think that this is not hgoing to happen.
When I played this game years ago there was no steam and only the publishers web site and
online talk rooms. I know that the printed strat guide had several typo errors and this could be one of them. It is only a sword I seek so in the long road in this game it is not a big deal.

The first two appear to be the wrong way around.

The puzzle in front of you can be solved in two ways, as it is based on the story of Fjori and Holgeir. The book is conveniently placed next to Lu'ah’s Journal and, when examined closely, will reveal the following sentences related to the puzzle:

As the Eagle finds its mates, so too did Fjori find hers in Holgeir, and a time of peace came to the clans of the forest.
But the Snake came and bit Holgeir, its venom seeping deep into the wound.
A Whale greeted Fjori's view as she came over the snow-covered mountains to the coast.
But the Snake bit Fjori as she poured the last drop into Holgeir's mouth, and fatigued from her journey, she joined the ancestors immediately.

From left to right, turn the pillars to match the words in the book. Alternatively, an easier solution is available. as the correct symbols can be found behind the table, mostly overgrown but still visible. With the pillars in place, pull the handle and the door to Ansilvund Burial Chambers will be accessible.

OP all the puzzels in skyrim have the answer within feet of the rotating things. It will be on the wall or behind the thingy you spin. Drop that starter guide and just look around the room the puzzel is in. The phrase "give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.....teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime" comes to mind ;)

I am old too, with failing eyesight. The key to all of these type puzzles are often, (if not always), in the room(s) where the totems are. In your case, retreat a few meters before the first totem, and the answers are on the walls.

So yes, as Unarmed Bandit said, your first two are reversed.
