well if they steal code from skse .... well there goes my respect. pity however their business practices are iffy at best.

Project deserves to die if they were stealing code.

Seen how much their patreon brings in? I hope it's gone too if that is the case. I haven't read too much into it, But the allegations are pretty bad.

And I never cared for "skyrim with friends" anyways. Not my style.
SpeedFreak1972 Feb 27, 2019 @ 3:19pm
yea they say that they don't use the code now however at one time they did.

Stealing Code, and making $34k/month off Patreon . . . guess crime really does pay . . . Not.
Truly sad, because so many were looking forward to this (No, Not Me). Even sadder is that I bet some who couldn't really afford to donate, tossed money into their Patreon.

Hiding the mod behind their own paywall during development was shady enough.
niohmints Feb 27, 2019 @ 4:01pm
I know its shady what they did but the fact that a modder team was able to bring coop to a game like this that has been wanted forever but was given Elder Scrolls Online instead is just insane and i respected them for that, I guess I do question what's going on with them though, I hope they can clear up stuff tbh

Elder Scrolls online isn't same as the skyrim because of the way class build, roleplaying, first person, gameplay, ect.

exactly, thats why im saying its impressive we got this coop mod cause instead of getting an actual coop elder scrolls game, bethesda just threw an MMO at us that is far different from the typical elder scrolls series so this is a mod that a lot of the community needed

We have had disagreements with the SKSE folks in the past, I have tried to communicate with them but they have never replied, so we stopped using their code. There might be some leftover code from them in there that was overlooked when we removed it, it isn't as simple as just deleting a folder, mainly our fault because we rushed some parts of the code. Anyway we are going to make sure to remove what might have slipped through the cracks for the next patch.

So, to be clear - you are saying that you:

started using our code
then asked for permission
never got permission
continued using it
eventually removed part of it yet somehow left some of it in
continued to charge for access the entire time?
promise to totally clean up a now license-tainted project?

That's it yes, I am sure every modder using SKSE sends you an email to ask if they can use your code.

And yes we ended up removing it.

Anyway if you wish to talk about this, you have my email.

What I found at the end of the reddit rabbit hole.

Holy SHT, 34k a month? Why are there so many dumb folk out there throwing money at things?

Because it's something seriously wanted by a good percentage of players.
I'll just wait for Skywind & Skyblivion. Those I donated some to because I know how hard they've been working on it for such a long time.

The leveling system in the Elder Scrolls series would have to be completely broken for co-op to work like you expect it to. Some builds level faster, others level more slowly.

I cannot fathom why all the people who want a multi-player TES game cannot understand this simple fact. It's also the EXACT reason Bethesda licensed ES to a company that only does MMOs, and why it's so different from an actual TES game. No one is so stupid as to NOT be able to figure that out, are they?

Everyone starts at Level 1.
Mage, Warrior, Thief, Ranger.

When the Warrior is up to level 5 because he's dealing all the damage, the Mage is level 9 because he's been healing the Warrior during and after combat, the Thief is still Level 1 because there's been nothing for him to do while the Warrior levels up, and the Ranger is maybe level 3 because he was firing arrows at targets to help the Warrior and protect the Mage and Thief.

Then you have the question of loot: who gets what.
"I got us here" says the Warrior
"Without me, you would have died from your wounds" says the Mage
"My arrow set off the trap that cleared the room" says the Ranger
"If I hadn't picked the locks, we'd still be outside in the rain" says the Thief

Of course, if you spawn leveled rewards for each teammate, that's just more for the game to get wrong. Warrior pulls a Level 5 Staff while the Mage pulls a Level 9 Bow while the Ranger pulls a level 3 War Axe and the Thief pulls a level 1 Iron Shield.
"We'll fix that in the next patch".

As for the SKSE thing: if they put their source code up, it's on them.
If they don't take time out of their busy schedule to respond to an email with a simple "No", that's on them. At least they asked. You can't be such a high-and-mighty dooshbag that you refuse to respond to a request to use the source code you released publicly. You're not THAT good. No one is.

I got no sympathy for either side. Skyrim With Friends is a bad idea. Get a webcam and a mic and chit-chat while you each play your own single-player games with a multi-follower mod and custom "virtual friend" followers. Go to the same locations at the same time, and face the same obstacles. Get a GOOD follower mod and command them to unlock doors, solve puzzles, and all the stuff your friend is actually doing in his game while the "you" in his game Waits for him to unlock the door, solve the puzzle, etc.

You do not have to be in the same map together like a real multi-player game.

You're still going to level differently, but the loot will be distributed fairly and leveled correctly.
