Better off going just browsing and writing down the ones you like and find them on Nexus to download. At least on Nexus you're sure to get one that's up to date and Virus Free
Now, I went searching for a Follower I think you'll like. She's a bit of a mage, with a custom body & face that doesn't require you to install ANY mods to use her . . . well, except for her mod. LOL
She got a great backstory you learn through a few mini quests that don't get in your way of exploring or questing.
Meet Marai https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/10908
Thank you for the mod, this looks to work well except for the faint but noticable hum during her dialog. as for the eye drops, have you looked around on the skyrim SE nexus list lately? there have probably been "young follower" mods before as I have heard of the "many child mods" however I have also heard of the purges of them that also happens. So from my perspective and timing, these kinds of mods are hard to find, at least currently.
As for the hum, you'll get used to it. I had her as a main companion for a couple hundred hours over a year ago. Just a bit of warning, it alters an interior in Markarth and the east side of the Dragon Bridge near the end of her questline. The author tried to make it as mod friendly as he could, but if you have a town overhaul mod, it may conflict. Check the conflict list on the description page.
Other than Vilja, Marai is in second place on my list next to Sophia.
My Favourite Sophia Quote. I actually had the pause the game the first time I heard her say this because I was laughing too hard to play.

Select your preferred Race
Rename it
Choose Male or Female
Go to the Body Data tab and change Height to anything less than 1.000 (Children are 0.8)
Close the dialog and select "Yes" to create a new form
Pick any Follower NPC (Housecarl, Hireling, etc) of the base Race and Gender you just edited (Nord>Female, etc)
Rename it
Select the Traits tab and change their Race to the Race you created
Give said NPC whatever spells and perks you want them to have
Remove all Factions (except Potential Follower and Current Follower), Relationships, and AI Packages from it except Default Master Package
Give it a Relationship to the Player and set it to Ally so you can just walk up and say "Follow me" without a bunch of drama
Load an interior cell from which to acquire this NPC (tavern, etc)
Drag the NPC into the cell in the Render WIndow
Save the mod
Run the game, enable the mod, Save before exiting Helgen Keep, go where you put the NPC and see if it's right
If not, exit, adjust it, then run the game again, and load the Save from before you left Helgen Keep
This may turn out to be a miniature adult more than a child, as they do use different meshes, and appear to be hardwired against certain behaviors/animations (some of the Staff animations cause mesh deformation)
Keeps the shorter ones from suddenly growing when they use or interact with furniture, cooking pots etc.
