How many endings to dawnguard?

Its been forever since i played dawnguard and the only time i played it i sided with the dawnguard.
Is it possible to join the volkihar but kill harkon?

That is the inevitable ending to Dawngaurd as he will feel threatened by the main character at some point and try to have them eliminated, prompting a final showdown.

Two possible endings, one for each side, the choice to pick Dawnguard or Volkihar is the only variable, everything else is on a predetermined path. You can choose when to continue, and you can do side quests, like the dwemer schematics, hunting down a vampire or for the volkihar hunting down a Vampire relic, but the actual content is fixed.

I just don't *get* why anybody would play wanting to join the vampire clan. Any vampire clan. Ever. Why do people want to play evil?

It's something else to do, you play both sides (different characters) and see the differences and the simularities. otherwise you end up doing the same old things again and again.

There's a genre that skyrim falls into, see, the genre is about playing a role, and that role doesn't have to be representative of you irl, it's called a role playing game, you're not actually enslaving people to drink their blood, it's just a game.

the other ending is to never reach Dawnguard as you keep putting it off until eventually you stop playing that character. I get that ending every time.

As for wanting to work with him for evil roleplay, sadly his plan is literally what Mr Burns did. Even if I wanted to be evil I don't think I could go full Simpsons. You never go full Simpsons.

The vampire side has powerful artifacts specifically made for vampires. If you are going to play vampire then you defiantly going to want to join. You get Vampire Lord a lot sooner and you do quests that can give that form a few boosts.

Also people can role-play as an evil character, I have a few.

Im not sure why'd you want to side with him either.. Even if you did block the sun, it wouldn't end well for every non vampire would hunt them to extinction. Even with the bow, Harkon wouldn't have that level of power...
