Otherwise get the Spellbreaker shield, it should reflect spells, so they don't damage you.
I am playing on Expert, as I said above. The Spellbreakers a good idea, I just thought that I would've been able to at least nearly survive an Ice Storm spell at lvl 55 with just armor and weapons, I might've overreacted a bit above, an Ice Storm spamming mage was pissing me off badly.
Resist Magic and Resist Frost are not the same thing. It'd be too easy to simply say "let's make Resist Fire, Frost, and Shock, but then let's also just make Resist Magic Entirely that does the same thing and costs less and doesn't put the player in a spot where they have to choose which one they want to be 100% of!"
From what I can see, Resist Magic is for everything else besides Elemental. Magic is Magic, yes, but that's Bethesda for you.
Although carrying around 3 suits of gear for 3 different elemental resistances and swapping them out in battle seems equally stupid, but that's how they set it up.
Get good at Archery, because Melee builds against backpedaling and spell-spamming mages is as stupid as trying to punch your way out of a gunfight.
Anyways for the problem at hand... Do you use any mods? Maybe look at them, they may change things about magic or resistances or override something that ducks you up. Otherwise I always went well with Tri-Elementalresistance gear since I never needed anything else, given your enchanting skill is at 100 and fully developed.
At least you tried. I don't find it overpowered at all; it balances the gameplay, considering Bethesda gave everyone and everything the psychic ability to detect an incoming attack from behind and to dodge without expending effort.
I do find it somewhat crazy that you can actually sneak in broad daylight, but then a good sneaker employs camouflage techniques to hide in plain sight, so it's not really all that crazy.
But part of defense is being aware of a threat. If they don't see you coming (or the arrow), they should take massive damage as punishment for relying on sight rather than paranoia.
And you don't have to sneak-attack the spamming mage, you can simply pop them while they're running backwards and spamming you. If only Shock Damage bows actually gimped their magicka so they couldn't cast such a high-powered spell...
Hmmm, sounds like a mod I need to make.
I'm also pretty sure that if you stand in the path of an Ice Storm you will get hit multiple times... so make sure you avoid it, or at least as much of it as you can.
Do you have this ready to copy/paste every time someone brings up the fact that Destruction sucks in Vanilla? Or are you just being a complete and utter pedant?
Destruction sucks for the Player, whether casting or receiving. It's great for NPCs, especially those with seemingly infinite magicka and no cooldown between casts, and a shorter dual-charge time.
And I really didn't want to be the first guy to say it, so since you did, I will also add that if you can't dodge a slow-moving spell like that, your heavy tank build is a complete fail.
It's not like they're hurling Chain Lightning or letting loose with Lightning Storm.
Also, Become Ethereal. Find it. Use it. Love it.
