3rd Person Camera Too Close to Character
As it says in the title. When in 3rd person, the camera is incredibly close to my character, to a point where it genuinely disrupts my play. I can zoom out by pinching the touchpad, but that is an extreme of another sort - it only goes all the way out, or all the way in (1st person mode). And yes, I play with touchpad. I have a thing that allows me to scroll.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? I would like to be able to see my surroundings a little more clearly, thanks, and Google has refused to give me any answers.

EDIT: I don't have any mods, and I don't plan to use them unless it's my only choice.

You aren't using a mouse, and instead a touchpad? I know that when I want to zoom out a little at a time, I can just use my mouse wheel. Isn't there a setting you can set up on your touchpad to emulate that mouse feature?

There is, and it does the same thing. I've tried ^^;

You can try using one of these if the default camera distance and behavior is not to your liking and you can't properly adjust the distance using the mouse wheel or by holding down R3 while panning out with L3.

Like I've already said, I don't use a mouse, and I certainly don't use a controller. I also kiiiinda don't want to go into mods? It disables achievements, right? Yes, it doesn't matter, but I sort of use those to mark my progress through the game.

If you're using something like bodyslides or racemenu you should also have the option of adjusting the camera distance by slider.

Just as an aside, even though you say you don't plan on using mods, you can get achievements on a modded game. To get achievements on a modded game, get this:
SSE Engine Fixes (skse64 plugin) - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17230

For that, you will also need SKSE64. This gives full info for that:

Not to mention you should get the Unofficial Patch. It fixes literally thousands of bugs - including some that may prevent you from getting certain achievements, completing quests, or just generally having a hassle free playthrough.

Mods can make this stuff easier to handle in-game but if you don't plan to mod there are several skyrim.ini settings you can tweak under the [Camera] heading. In particular, the minimum current zoom and mouse wheel zoom settings might we worth changing.

Details of the various camera ini settings here:

Have you tried adjusting your FOV?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
