(Special Edition) No Audio Suddenly
I recently bought Skyrim Special Edition during a sale, and it was working flawlessly. I decided I would try my hand at modding and, for a while, it was working. Only a few issues with mods simply not working but nothing serious. Just yesterday, however, I go to boot my game from my SKSE launcher, and there is no audio at all. Bethesda logo drums, main menu sounds, even the game had no audio at all.
I tried uninstalling all my mods, reinstalling the game, deleting SKSE, uninstalled my mod manager (Vortex), deleted every Skyrim related folder and file, reinstalled my Realtek audio drivers, and still there is no audio. I was really excited to get to play a true modded Skyrim after 1000+ hours in vanilla.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? I've feel like I've tried everything. Please send help.

Yeah, I hate Script Extenders for a reason. Huge performance impact (Varies by mods but extended scripts always require more processor time) and it breaks the game all the time.

But just to rule out some things, make sure your audio device is set properly. Sometimes windows likes to change audio device off your default.

Test another game too.

Do you think it's SKSE? I've heard it's pretty crucial for a lot of mods. I have SkyUI and having SKSE really helps with it. And for the audio device, how would I go about checking that?

Nevermind lol. I knew when I figured it out, I would feel incredibly dumb. I tore down the entire building because a light bulb went out. Skyrim was muted in my volume mixer in the sound menu. Thanks for the help, though! You set me on the right path to figuring it out.

Yeah, SKSE is crucial for a lot more complex mods, but I never found the effort worth it in the end. SKSE is a lot better than Fallout4SE though, since Skyrim has a lot more headroom for performance loss. And again, it'll always depend on the complexity and frequency of the bloated scripts in particular mods.

That is a completely insane idea considering without SKSE game is bugged to decrease fps with every esp and esm that is activated no matter its contents. Also I have played Fallout 3, Fallout 4, fallout nv and skyrim, and skyrim special edition and never saw any negative performance cost when using script extender or script extender plugins.

I mean do you use exclusively texture mods and like use 15 or less mods that have esm/esp?

I personally am using just texture and ambience mods along with campfire and frostfall and some combat mods. I'm probably gonna add some more and hopefully nothing goes wrong.

Well my load order already has 185 plugins with 493 mods/archives/patches/packs with about 300'ish actually active/enabled. Your game should be fine as long as you use MO2 or Vortex in combination with LOOT to check for errors. My game is currently somewhat stable even with that many mods. (though im not gonna do a playthrough yet since i am still adding, removing, changing mods and testing stability.)

Also would advice no ENB unless using a high end i7 and high endish nvidia card.
