Novice Mortar & Pestle?
I have a "novice" mortar and pestle. I had assumed this to mean there were apprentice, expert and master mortar & pestles, otherwise why would it say "novice".

Googled "where is the apprentice mortar & pestle in Skyrim". The pages displayed showed only where Morrowind and Oblivion mortar & pestles can be found, even though I wrote "Skyrim" in the question.

Does this mean there are no better mortar & pestles than novice?

Are you using mods? Because there are no "Mortar and Pestle" items in vanilla skyrim, only the alchemy tables.

Those items are not used in Skyrim. They are Morrowind and Oblivion tools.

This comes from, I think, Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul (CACO). Yes, there is better quality gear out there. I've got an in-progress game where I'm carrying around an Expert Mortar and Pestle, which I bought from an alchemist (Solitude I think, but don't hold me to that). I don't recall finding anything better than Novice as random loot, but that doesn't mean it isn't in a leveled list somewhere.

Yes, using a lot of mods + all the DLC. So you have an "Expert" mortar & Pestle in vanilla? And you bought it in an Alchemy store. Ok. I keep looking for them.

They have just told you that VANILLA game doesn’t have those tools, never had. It comes from one of your mods. If you wanna know more details, figure out which MOD(S) have those items, open Nexus and read mod description.

No, that's not how it works. There is NOTHING like that in the base game. None of the DLCs have them either. If you have usable mortars & pestles in the game, they're part of a mod you installed. That's the ONLY way you could have them.

No. There is no mortar and pestle in vanilla Skyrim because there is only an alchemy station. Mortar and pestle are added by mods, so the trick is figuring out WHICH mod(s) add them. Open the console and type "help mortar" and you'll see every item in the game which contains the word "mortar". Look at the ID(s) and make a note of the first two digits (remember that it's a hexadecimal number). Exit the game, look at your load order, and find the ones that match the ID number(s) that you noted. That will most likely be the mod that's adding it.
