PSA: Animation Mods, Skyrim SE v.1.59.7.0 update, and CTDs
First and foremost, I would like to say- this is not in any way a shot at the AWESOME modder Fore- FNIS is one of the best mods out there, and this issue is being caused by a Skyrim update breaking Fores New Idles in Skyrim SE. Not his fault.

I mod Skyrim SE rather heavily, and after the 1.59.7.0 update, I began to get a lot of CTDs. From the vanilla start, I usually could not make it into Helgen Keep without a crash, and never once was I able to make it as far as Riverwood. So, I first updated every mod I have via Vortex, no help. Then I uninstalled all my mods, and through a slow and methodical process of elimination, I concluded that the mod causing the crash was FNIS. When I removed FNIS, creature pack, and sexy move (and also pretty jump animations) and left everything else, I was able to run all the way through the end of Ustengrav without a problem.

As I type this, it is the day before Thanksgiving... and I am sure that Fore will get around to fixing FNIS, but it is a holiday weekend- and so anyone having CTDs that uses animation mods need merely disable FNIS and those animation mods until Fore gets a fix uploaded, and then your game will run smoothly again.

Thanks again to the modder Fore for making us such an awesome mod, and let's all be patient, because I am sure a fix is on the way.

It is not FNIS but a mod causing it (wrong version or wrong game like skyrim/LE not SSE).
Did you install XPMSSE and CBP Physics
Make sure they are current versions also with all your mods and please read the info they give you.

Since you deleted it we can not tell you whats what because FNIS will note errors within its page when generating it for users.

As Kelvy posted. Most definitely it is some mod. I personally have 1535 mods running, FNIS being one of them, and no problems whatsoever. But then, I have no problems with my build at all - completely stable, no CTDs, and stable frame rate - if FNIS had an issue, it would more than likely show up in my game, given the size.

Also, in literally almost every case presented in the forums regarding issues with FNIS, it is user error.

I didnt delete it, I disabled it. And I assure you, on my machine, FNIS and 1.59.7.0 update do not get along. Literally every .dll based mod I run has caught an update in the last few days, since this latest skyrim update- everything but FNIS. Ive been running the same 200+ mod load order now for a year, problem free, since I got this laptop. Also, I havent added a new mod in over a month, I just suddenly started having CTDs. All due respect, but I am a very experienced modder, I know exactly how to use FNIS. I am telling you, if FNIS isnt crashing your game, then you very likely are not running v.1.59.7.0 update. Bethesda made some sort of change that is causing all of the .dll based mods to need an update.

PapyrusUtil - latest update 23 November 2019
Jcontainers - latest update 22 November 2019
CPB physics - latest update 23 November 2019
CBPC physics - latest update 21 November 2019
XPMSSE - latest update 21 November 2019

I can't really say precisely when the folks over at silverlight.org updated SKSE, because they dont post dates, but we recently got a new version of that- version 2.0.17 for Skyrim SE 1.59.7.0.

I would bet money that both posters are not running current version of Skyrim SE.

Which is more statistically likely- that an update from Bethesda caused some necessary changes to .dll based mods, or that all of those mod authors just randomly decided to post a new update in the same 48 hours?

Fore's last update was November 7 2019, before the Skyrim update hit, and his changelog does not mention anything about SSE v.1.59.7.0.

Don't get me wrong here fellas, I appreciate the post trying to help me, but I assure you, I know what my problem is. I can run every mod in my load order with FNIS on and I CTD, but if I disable it and mods that depend on it, smooth sailing. Prior to v.1.5.97.0, everything was running perfectly.

I respectfully disagree, OP. By the sound of it you probably don't know what the problem is. There are no problems being reported with FNIS since the last patch, yet there ARE several problems being reported with reliant mods. You're assuming the problem and are ignoring attempts to help you. FNIS is almost certainly a strawman for your problem. Removing it has likely also removed the real problem from your game.

To better allow us to help you, please post your load order (with no mods removed).

I doubt it's FNIS causing ctd, latest version of XPMSSE cause ctd for several people at helgen.
Trehek Nov 28, 2019 @ 4:59am
Oh, and just to be clear, FNIS is not a SKSE mod, which is the reason it hasn't required recent updates like many other mods.

For purposes of diagnosis I have simplified my load order. All masters cleaned, legally purchased copy from Steam. Every mod is the most current version. Bashed patch, then generate FNIS for users with the skeleton arm fix enabled and no other patches. Also installed is CBP physics and SKSE v.2.0.17. This list produces CTDs inside of five minutes, every time I try and play. None of the mods are LE or Oldrim versions, all are for SSE.

When I drop FNIS and FNISSexyMove, the CTDs stop.

This is a fundamentally healthy computer, the only time I have to reboot is once a week after patch Tuesday. Video card is a 1050TI with 4GB of RAM, and an SSD boot drive split into two partitions- one for windows, and the other for games. 8GB system RAM, plenty of free space on the SSD so no slowdowns due to garbage collection.

That's probably because when you remove FNIS, the game no longer loads the custom animations of XPMSSE which is your likely culprit. The newest version is reported to cause crashing. Try reverting XPMSSE to an earlier version. 4.61 is reported functional, at least.

OK, so revert XPMSSE to 4.61... I will try that, thanks.

That's not true.

Expand the requirements section. XPMSSE requires FNIS, Racemenu and SKSE.

Heh, and that was my mistake. I clicked on the wrong tab and looked under the requirements for FNIS, not XPMSSE... My bad lol.

No problem. If reverting XPMSSE doesn't fix the problem, best check CBP as well. Those are the two SKSE mods you have which might be the cause. FNIS is certainly not the problem. Sexy Move might be an issue since it's a SKSE mod, but I'm not seeing any reports of issues for it.
Brenderick Nov 28, 2019 @ 6:34am
Reverted to XPMSSE v.4.61- no dice. I also tried disabling CBP before I posted this thread, and all that did was make a depressing lack of jiggles.

Remember to run GenerateFNISForUsers after the changes.

I have an icon on my taskbar just for that purpose, chuckles.
