Samsung C27RG5 27" Curved Gaming Monitor 240Hz
I'm looking at buying the above monitor - it is GSYNC compatible and has a refresh rate of 240htz.

Question is will i have to mess around with settings to get it to play nicely with Skyrim Special Edition or will the fact its GSYNC compatible mean it will handle this for me?

Also is their any benefit to Skyrim by buying this monitor, one reason for the potential purchase is the fact that i do suffer from screen tare and stuttering (depending on what settings i have).

Or should i soldier on with my Toshiba 4K 43 inch LCD TV running at 1080P?

Thanks.

Skyrim's physics are tied to FPS and it takes some fiddling with config files to get to work for anything higher than 60 FPS. Here's a random guide I found.

Also a VA panel I would go for an ips panel once you had an ips you won't go back

You will probably have to throttle that down to 60hz.

I have a Asus Swift PG279 whose default hz is 144, if I remember correctly, and I run it at 60hz when playing Bethesda games.

When I used the monitor on my Windows 7 computer I could change on the fly, so to speak, but since I bought this Windows 10 machine I must change the refresh rate in the settings.

I run it on 144hz the fps is just capped 60 fps ..., have the same monitor btw

Can you give me your thoughts on this monitor? Its looks to be available at very good price on Amazon for a limited time.

Thanks

Hi, im on Windows 7 - got a laptop with Windows 10 and i hate it.

When you say "change on the fly" in Windows 7 can you elaborate how that is done please?

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for that, is it me or does this part of the fix not make sense:

Open SkyrimPrefs.ini
Change the setting iVSyncPresentInterval=1 from 0 to 1
Save as iVSyncPresentInterval=0 and exit.

Is it saying that you have two ivsync lines, one with =0 & one with =1?

Im confused!

If your issue is screen tearing and stuttering you don't need a 240Hz monitor to fix that.

You just use your current monitor and turn on V-Sync. Done.

A 240hz monitor is great, but it only works if you have an equally beastly GPU that can feed it 200+ frames per second in the games you play. It's great in any kind of 3D game but is essential in competitive FPS play. In an RPG like Skyrim it's less useful, and Skyrim doesn't go beyond 60fps. I have a 120Hz monitor and I'm still playing Skyrim at just 60fps.

Just one, it should be 0.

Turn on vsync - if only it were that simple, it doesnt solve the stutteting issue for me which is the bigger problem of the two. I do have a good graphics card so im not worried about that part of the equation.

And there are fixes that enable plus 60 fps play since special edition was released. How successful/stable i do not know but plenty of people claim success.

Thanks, one final question where it says:

Add this line at the end of the .ini file.

[HAVOK]
fMaxTime=X
X=1/Maximum Framerate You Want

If you own an 120hz monitor, replace X with 0.0083 -- 1/120=0.0083. 144hz monitors, replace X with 0.0069.

Does he really mead "add" as there obviously is already a standard fMaxTime setting there. Wont keeping the original setting cause a conflict with the new setting?.

Should it be replaced or just added to?

Thanks.

If it's present, replace it, but it shouldn't be there by default unless you or something you installed already added it.
