Gamepad not working with SKSE64
when I start the game with SKSE loader my xbox one controller is not working ingame. it works when starting the game through steam there is no issue.

I am not using a mod manager, just a small handful of mods. All of them work without SKSE but I need skse for the skyui. Anyone know what the problem may be?

EDIT: found the issue but still I am wondering, is anyone able to use skse and a gamepad when forcing the controller per-game input in steams big picture mode to "Force Off" instead of xbox/generic or whatever you may have to use?

did/does your controller run fine when not having skse installed?

I found a fix for this issue. Apparently you have to have a gamepad emulation enabled in the games big picture settings.

Switching this to Force Off is the first thing I always do when planning to use a controller in a game. Can't exactly remember not doing that when I was using skse and vanilla Skyrim in the past either. But it seems this was my own fault. Still wondering if this behaviour is normal or something might still be off with my skse install?

Greenknight I'm having the same issue - Windows 10, fresh install of Skyrim SE, latest SKSE, XBox One controller with the wireless dongle. Won't work unless I disable Xbox One controller support globally in Big Picture Mode.

I am glad that I saw your comment on this! This fixed it for me.

Even if this causes the controller to stop working for other games, it is a few mouse clicks to change.

I wish that Steam would stop changing their controller APIs.

Is there any fix for this for Skryim SE? Don't want to create a new thread.

As of the last time I started the game a few weeks ago, still had to disable XBox One controller support in Steam to use that controller in Skyrim SE

I have this issue, but if I try that method, it still will not work and I am unsure why...am I missing a step? For the record, my controller is NOT wireless.

Hi there!

I struggled also with this issue and found an interesting approach on reddit: add the mod manager as a non-steam game and launch it from Steam and finally launch SKSE64 from the mod manager.

Thus, I achieved to use the PS5 controller with Skyrim SE! Yessss! :steamhappy:

My config is:
- Windows 10
- PS5 controller connected wirelessly via Bluetooth

Steam settings:
- PS controller support
- Steam Input Per-Game Setting
- Big picture

Skyrim display:
- Borderless window
- External HDMI display
- Game resolution matching screen resolution

SkyrimPrefs.ini:
- bGamePadEnable=0

Mod Manager:
- Vortex

Hope this may help you!

Cheers

I know I'm late to the party but for anyone out there I have the solution 100%. Go to Your documents > My Games > Skyrim (Special Edition) > SkyrimPrefs.ini and change bGamePadEnable=0 to bGamePadEnable=1

Wanna fix the skse64 fullscreen problem? change bFull Screen=0 to bFull Screen=1

Both of those were already set and it still crashes.
