Also, not all mods can be installed that simply. Be sure to read the ENTIRE description page to find out how to properly install the mod and any conflicts or incompatibility it has.
I just noticed you said "mods coming directly from Steam."
Meaning you're not using Nexus, but are you using the Workshop (which is for LE, not SE) or are you using the Bethesda site from the launcher?
Bethesda creation club only introduced after Skyrim SE along with dlc a.k.a paid mods
Although with a few mod, you don't really need any mod manager, but if you want to keep your Skyrim main folder clean from mods, vortex or mo2 is the way to go, they keep your main folder clean from mods, easy to manage/modifying mods, and in case of some mods broke Skyrim files completely, just disable them instead of reinstall
I recommend just getting Vortex off the Nexus site and, like I said before, reading descriptions thoroughly before hitting the download button. If you managed SKSE's install you can figure out Vortex. You will need to get rid of RDO from Bethesda (to get it from Nexus) if you go this route.
Perhaps someone else who uses the Bethesda launcher and their site for modding can help.
