Magic is overpowered
As the title says rather bluntly, using magic (mostly destruction) in this game is almost always the easiest solution to a battle, and much more effective and takes less effort than using a melee weapon or a bow. Not to mention that when enemies are given this ungodly power, they become the miniboss of that encounter, being able to tank as much damage as a regular warrior NPC while backpeddling like a reversed Usain Bolt. It makes a pure melee build impossible to play, unless you plan on guzzling healing potions like khajiit do skooma. You can just forget about playing on higher difficulties against these types of enemies, being that their damage is multiplied enough to kill a mid-level player in a matter of seconds (first hand experience). Are there any mods to help with this issue released for SE, or am I going to have to give up on any chances of fighting a mage without having my follower tank for me?

Avoid magic-users and level up Block against other melee enemies until you can unlock the perk that blocks magic.
Get followers.
Or, do the Peryite Shrine quest near Bthardamz and get Spellbreaker.

There's always a way, but the Elder Scrolls is not one of those RPG series where you can get away with doing a simplistic single-function one-trick pony character build, mostly because it's single-player, and you encounter a variety of enemies. You need to be able to match that variety, or learn to avoid them. You cannot do it all as a melee, or as a mage, or as a thief, or as a tank. You either need to stick to the one-trick pony path or learn more tricks.

Enemy magic users cheat; they have boosted magic regen and cut magicka costs compared to the player. That's why they can cast so many ice storms.
Otherwise I'd have to disagree that magic is overpowered for the player to use.

The vanilla game has a lot of ways to get around magic. For one, you can obviously use enchanted items if you're so lucky as to find them. There's also perks, quest rewards, and standing stones that will help you.
I recommend investing in Alteration in order to get the magic resistance perks (up to 30% magic resistance) and Atronach (30% spell absoption, which means there is that chance for spells to not do damage). You should also do the Book of Love quest in Riften as soon as possible, because it gives a further 15% magic resistance. From there you can either get the Atronach stone (50% spell absorption) or the Lord stone (25% more magic resist).
Magic resistance caps at 80% of damage resisted, but stacking specific elemental resistances and spell absorption on top of that can reduce the magic damage you take to almost nothing.

Also, the khajiit traditionally only consume skooma during rare cultural rituals, and it is frowned upon to consume it at other times. Far more prevalent in their culture is the consumption of moon sugar, which is only one of the ingredients of skooma, and is something that the khajiit biology has a greater tolerance to than other races. I'd argue that the game has more dunmer skooma addicts in it than khajiit skooma addicts.

@DrNewcenstein Everything but ranged characters and thieves follow those rules.

@MysticMalevolence I agree on the player's behalf, magic is fairly balanced. I was mostly focusing this topic towards enemies using magic, since they seem almost unfeasable as a pure build. The fact that you have to have knowledge of the game and collect specific items or take certain perks that reduce oncoming magic damage, makes things a bit more unrealistic in a roleplay perspective.

My current character uses dual wielding. Don't suppose I have a third arm for a shield do I?

Use that and be underpowered then. And lose all battles whit any mage you come across.
Agree whit DrNewcenstein there.

That isn't being underpowered, that's a severe inbalance in the power of certain fighting types. Also what's with the 'whit'?

Having an opinion labels me as not fit for this forum? Gee, that sure makes things difficult.

It was you that brought it up. I dont label you at all, I did say the fact.
If you cant understand what is typed, then it is your problem.

I stand whit my opinion that you are underpowerd when using dual weapons and I agree whit DrNewenstien.

I don't think the specific type of dialect I use really matters. Does your broken english count as one? If so, I'm sorry for the offense.

You have one problem whith people not have English as native language?
If so, you have more issues then being underpowered in Skyrim.
If you want I can write in Swedish for you?

If it prevents the mess of broken english you are sending currently, I'd be glad to use google translate to understand what you're saying. Addressing the statement that I'm underpowered, that's not an opinion, unless me saying 'the sky is red' is an opinion too.

Du kanske borde lära dig lite om hur denna planet fungerar och internet.
Steam är inget som är bara för US. Det är faktiskt ett program som är från Irland med dess lagar och förordningar.
If you don't care about this, then why are you still here? Instead of informing me about Steam's history, go make false statements on somebody else's forum post.

I wasn't being aggressive, merely pointing out an error in your spelling. If you take that as being aggressive, then you are way too easily offended. Though I am rather hurt that you would take a petty arguement such as this so far as to insult my mental clarity. Please take your rude responses elsewhere, as I'm not interested in continuing this.
