Starting "Blood on the Ice" after civil war?
Good day,

So i've never had this problem before but i just finished the civil war (on Empires side) and i'm now wondering how to start the Blood on the Ice guest?

The body is still where it should be and there is blood everywhere but there are no people around the body where they were before the civil war. I've also tried starting the guest via console commands but it didnt seem to do anything, also read somewhere that entering Hjerim would start the guest but it didn't.

What should i do?

Blood on Ice is notorious for being litterally the most bugged quest in skyrim (It has about 30 known bugs and only 2 have been officially patched). Unfortunately there is no way to start the quest if the civil war bug occured in your game (Which it has since you finished the civil war on the empires side and now cant start the quest). The only way to start it that i can think of is to spawn in a windhelm guard via console command and make sure he isnt fighting the imperial guards by using voice of the emperor (can also be aquired from console commands) or any other calming spell and try to talk to him to see if the quest will start that way. If not then you would have to go all the way back to a save file before you completed the seige on windhelm.

Yeah im aware that this is the most bugged mission, but i'll try that windhelm guard thing first, if that doesnt work i'll see if i can get a save before the siege (it's a bad habit of only using quick saves so)

So spawning a Windhelm guard does nothing, and i cant find any saves that arent a million level lower than my current one, so i guess i wont be doing that guest this playthrough
Blood on the Ice is one of the quests you want to do before you finish the civil war.
Otherwise some bugs are impossible to resolve, no commands will fix them.

This sounds like one of them, sorry.

Yeah its fine, thanks tho. Im not going to spend much of my time in Windhelm anyway, so far away from everything.

Don't know if this is still relevant, but I have found a way to start this quest after completing the seige of Windhelm quest. For me "Blood on the ice" started after entering Hjorim without talking to any of the guards (as there are none). Hope this will be useful :)

just pick the lock the hjerim and it will force start the quest you dont need to use console commands or anything
What you need to do is get into the house that the women where murded then bring evidence to each person before going to the Stuart
