Werewolf mage?
Hi guys, I'm thinking of starting a new character and I find using magic gives a better experience as your not simply running up and hitting things.

I've settled on a nord mage as it feels more appropriate with the whole dragonborn thing. I was thinking it's quite possible to also be a companion member as some sort of battle mage, using 1 handed weapons and spells. I've also toyed with the idea of going to the college...

Anyway, as a bonus I was thinking I could go werewolf as opposed to the vampire which everyone says you should but vampires feel evil and it's not the feel I'm going for.

So does a werewolf work as a mage and if so how?

A Werewolf Mage works fine, mechanically. You cast spells and when some idiot closes the gap to gank the clothie you just turn into a giant hairy murder machine and tear them apart. They compliment each other fairly well. Flesh spells also work in Werewolf form (as long as you cast them beforehand), which helps shore up the weakness it has (little damage reduction through armor).

Regarding feeling forced to be evil if a Vampire, well... they are pretty evil flat out anyways. If you don't want to feel evil, just don't do Dawnguard. You can catch Vampirism pretty easily and then just be a regular Vampire, doing whatever.

you talk like you can cast spells in the werewolf form.

A Werewolf as a mage; no. Since Werewolves can't cast spells

But there is nothing stopping you playing as a mage that can turn into a Werewolf, you just have to remember it's two completely unrelated playstyles

Sorry I don't think I explained it well. What I mean is spellcasrers 90% of the time and using werewolf as a backup for when things go south.

My issue is I get bored doing the same thing over and over, having a sword and board is only fun for so long, casting fireballs is only fun for so long, sniping with a bow is only fun for so long etc.
I always play a mage, and I always end up a werewolf, because I think vampyrism is lame.

Only problem with becoming a werewolf as a mage is the quest line involved (companions) However thank heavens the're mods to become a werewolf in other ways ....

It does seem like mages are always pointed to going a vampire but that then means you have to go down the Harkon line which incidentally also makes you an evil character which feels forced just to be relevant.

except you can easily do their questline with magic instead of melee?
still the second line is right^_^

depends, you dont "need" to do the evil missions and can choose to be a benign vampire like the two random vampires living in a village (or hell like serana, i mean when does she act evil in the storyline xD)
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

This was very much the question I was asking. Thanks for the feedback.

Vampires in general are evil whether you do the dawnguard stuff or not as you have to keep feeding whereas werewolves are more a neutral force, only eating by choice.

Yes you can do that Quest line as a mage however from a RP perspective it doesn't make sense ... just saying
Sevrojin Jan 2, 2019 @ 1:58am
considering how getting good magic greatly benefits vampire lord form as well as the illusion buffs i dont see why you woulnt use vampire.
also being a nord vampire you can get 100% ice magic damage reduction just by getting to teir 3 starvation

RP perspective? You can Role Play just about anything if you use your imagination!

and in terms of how evil the 2 are one of them murders people and eats their hearts to gain power while the other drinks blood and doesnt need to kill them so imo a vampire is less evil then a werewolf

Yeah but if you're RP'ing a strict Pure Mage type and have to join the Companions and do "warrior"-y things...

You can always just eat corpses that others kill, and then use the WW perk for being able to eat animal hearts too. Hircine (patron of Werewolves) also isn't strictly evil, while I would guess that most everyone would say that Molag Bal (creator of vampires) is.

all those builds are just for level 20 and below and that is your choice.
dont forget a mod that removes high level limits for quests and such while you at that.
oh and dont forget perks, race and other content changer while you at changeing all that stuff.
anything that makes your gameplay more fun for you..
and lastly get a mod to set no exp gain per choice.that way you can play without getting stronger at your own chocie.
