Dragonsreach: Main quest crash
Not used to modding, have a bunch of mods enable. Problem is everytime I walk up to the Jarl in Dragonreach (first time approaching him), which triggers Irileth to approach you, it crashes. The rest of the game works perfectly, I can go into other cities and do missions, but the everytime i come back to do the main quest, it still crashes. Has anyone had this problem before? I can't figure it out, but it may be because (like a noob modder I am) I reinstalled XPMSE. I don't want to have to uninstall all my downloads, only if its the last possible options. Any thoughts? I can give more details if someone is interested to help me.

Well post (mod list) the order in which mods are loaded. Using loot is the best way. Loot has a menu that will give you a list for us.

To many body mods for me, I am lost when they are used.

Hope somebody who knows them can help.
Thanatos Jan 25, 2019 @ 8:30pm
Everything helps, since I have no idea where to look. Thanks again, will try disabling a few!
DPMR Jan 25, 2019 @ 8:33pm
A thought, have you used xEdit to clean the masters. The master files have some issues that need to be cleaned out, some mods will crash game because of this.
Thanatos Jan 25, 2019 @ 9:18pm
Trying that out right now. Got a couple to do, see how it goes.
Thanatos Jan 25, 2019 @ 9:35pm
Sadly it didn't work, though now I know how to clean my plugins now. I think I will just uninstall everything and try again. Won't take as long since I have a better idea of what to do. Thanks again for tyring to help me DPMR

Decide what mods would you like to keep. Actually I see an awful lot of body mods and a high level of libido of yours. :D They surely conflict with each other. Before downloading a certain mod, it is mostly adviseable to check the description/forum posts about it, where prominent information can hide. I also recommend creating a Bashed Patch in Wrye Bash and put it manually to the last of your mod list via Wrye Bash.

You have to go back to an old save after you clean, any auto or hard save made will be corrupt.

Of course in saying that you don't really know where the coruption started, which is why you really need to start a new playthrew.

I don't know if you said plugins by mistake for masters, but never never clean a mod or its plugins unless the mod creator says its OK to.

Some things you see as dirty edits, the author has simply left because it either causes no issues or they may use it in an update to the mod.

Some mod updates are just laid onto top of the old mods instead of removing old mod, if you have cleaned out something the author knows is already in place, that could break mod.

Ryksa: I do have a lot of body mods, which DPMR said early, which probably is the issue, so the next time I am not going to put as many in... I did start to read the description, but again I am a noob modder, so I started reading them after my 50 mod... rip...I'll look into Wrye Bash this time.

DPMR: I was able to pick that up earlier on, so I have a backs up on my main character, but I am . I did mean masters, not plugins, sorry. I'll look for these dirty edits on when I finish uninstalling these mods. I haven't been modding that long to have to update anything, but I will keep that in mind.

Thanks again for the comments. I decided to uninstall all the mod and start from scratch, seeing as I don't know which mod messed up since I never started the quest till 2-3 hours in.

Thats because it never works. Cleaning the masters has always been an unncessary step recommended by people who are neither avid modders nor mod authors.

You don't need SSEdit or Wrye Bash or anything but LOOT if you simply choose mods that are compatible with each other or have compatibility patches.

My game is 120+ mods, stable, and I didn't clean any dirty edits (because you don't need to) and everything is compatible (because I made tough decisions).

If you want your cake and to eat it as well you better get deeper into understanding modding itself before you start plugging in 100+ mods.

That is totally and completely wrong. Only if you are not using any mods is it unnecessary to clean the masters. If you use mods, you must clean the master files.

From the guide:
Why should I do this?
The simple answer is because the original game Master files (.ESM) include multiple references to identical items, but more importantly they also include references to deleted items that can and will interfere with some mods working correctly. What we accomplish by removing these "dirty edits" is a more stable game environment if you are installing mods.

Just because one person has not has any issues or problems, does not mean that what they observed applies to all else. We with thousands of hours of experience in the forums have seen otherwise - and that is what we base our advice on, not our individual experiences.

Clean your master files. Make sure FNIS and your Skeleton are below your patches.

If your skeleton is being over written you'll CDT going through almost any load screen.

Sorry smr1957, I completely disagree with you.

Even a modicum of research turns over nothing but wobbly information from questionable sources. And as I said, I've modded Skyrim several times with hundreds of different mods and never bothered to clean my masters.

It's not a "it works for me so it works for everyone" thing. It's a "15 minutes of Googling gives no conclusive answer" thing. It's a "don't fix what ain't broke" thing.

Not once have I ever seen someone say "Yay! Cleaning my masters made everything work!" either.

We both know the problems are deeper and more complex than that.

Then you also disagree with Arthmoor, all the other members of the Coffee house group (who possess well over 100,000 hours of total experience), and all others such as Mator, Elminster, as well as all other prominent forum members. And, while everyone is entitled to their opinion, not everyone's opinion is equally valid.

Even a modicum of research will turn up such facts as "we never landed on the moon", "the earth is actually flat", etc, etc, etc. Should people actually believe that? Or should they believe the people who actually know, based upon literally thousands of hours of experience and research.
