Any mods for realistic or practical armor?
You know, simple things like non-ugly historically accurate iron, orcish, ebony, steel plate, daedric or dragonbone?
I just want a mod that gets rid of the giant horns and spikes, impactical decals and just non-ugly armor.

Immersive Armors is my go-to, but it doesn't necessarily fit "realistic" so much as "lore-friendly."

But you're asking for historically accurate dragonbone armor is kind of funny.

I find IA options pretty much all suck. There are a handful that I used to use, via turning off all of the others in the MCM, but at this point I don't even bother with it. Same with IW, except you can't even turn off the ones you don't like in that mod.

Just use a basic armor and smith it up. You can hit the armor cap with Steel Plate without any shenanigans, just 100 Smithing skill, IIRC.

You might still have luck finding reskins for specific armor sets if there's only a few you really dont like but want to use.
Vanilla, the Dawnguard armor is probably the most realistic in the game, resembling a coat of plates.

I am particularly fond of the Gondorian armor from the Lord of the Rings movies, which is quite practical:

(I suggest the cloakless variants.)
Unfortunately that's about all there is on the Special Edition Nexus right now.

There are a few on oldrim's Nexus, but I would need a moment to find them, and they would need to be ported. And I don't know of any wide-scale 'practical' armor replacers.

EDIT: Alternate Scaled Armor is nice:

Historically accurate Orcish armor, is that with or without a tail hole for the Kajahit?

I don't know, jancawa - all the Khajiits I meet in RL prefer to keep their tails tucked under the armor - that way it doesn't get chopped off.

This one once knew a lizardman who wore orcish--he lost his tail to an axe. Khajiit thinks he might grow it back, but isn't sure. That is why this one always recommends khajiiti tail armors[www.nexusmods.com].

(I imagine tail accomodation would have to be adjusted for by the armorsmith. given that orcs don't have tails, orcish armor wouldn't have it by default.)

historically accurate orcish, daedric, and dragonbone armor.

what the schnitzel

guys, i said historically accurate OR at least PRACTICAL. Orcish armor, Daedric, and Dragonbone have all these impractical spikes and stuff that would do nothing but expose you and get in your way in a real life situation. The historically accurate thing was referring to steel armor, plate armor or iron armor.

The "Beyond Skyim: Bruma" mod adds some very realistic/practical armors (Fur, Leather, Iron, Chainmail). Nothing in the Orc, Dwarven, Daedric, Dragon, or Elven armors though.

Brother Tarkus, i'm afraid the Dawnguard armor is your only option.

That is just too cool! Props to the designer!!

I too hate excessive horns and wings and weird etchings and stuff on all the helmets. I mean it would be cool if a few had em, but they're almost entirely the steriotypical 80s idea of the viking helm.

Only good helmet we have is the dawnguard one, and the armor itself is kinda a brigandine, but the rest of the armor is open-face heavy metal skull and horns and spikes studded hell bent for leather bdsm harness bullcrap and sleaveless showin off the guns in -60 degree weather nonsense. Cool if you want to be a barbarian.

So like, hundreds of years prior, Morrowind of all places had fluted full plate armor. Go figure. More inconsistencies.

Also Dawnguard is like kinda mid-late game, and it's not even top tier. The spikey gnarled turd ooga booga armors are.

there is no problem with that, the armors differ from province to province. The Nords just make different plate armors then the bretons or the imperials.
