I dont use consols, but I believe you can buy a keyboard and mouse to them now?
I know lots of people prefer controllers. I just never have understood why, other then for games where you only move and shoot. And where you only need a few buttons for dialogs, choices etc.
Keyboard and mouse are still far superior for RPGs, MMOs and any social game with text.
Even some FPS games which offers alot of skills and "things" do use in real time, makes the controller an obstical compaired to a keyboard.
Sure, I understand that some players wants controllers no matter what!
But,
then people needs to accept the limitation controllers has on games which are not made ONLY for consoles.
OP, I am not attacking you.
I am just suggesting the solution to your issue, which is a keyboard.
If you do not want to use a keyboard, then I simply explain the limitation on controllers for games that isnt console only.
With keyboard movement you're stuck with discreet speeds when choosing to walk or run. A controller's movement is analogue and so allows you to move in a more natural and fluid way that connects you more effectively (imo) to the world you're playing in. I feel as if I'm "there" when I use a controller and so it has become my go-to way of playing games where immersion is more important than having twitch reflexes.
My PS4 controller for The Witcher 3 is far superior to the k/board and mouse, its the only way i will play that game.
Which I missed to add!!
What sort of game control players likes, are hugely subjective
You describe how the controller works best for you, both as reacting quickly, and how the controller makes you "feel" you are in the game.
You are immersed in the game since you act automaticly with the controller, and never have to "think" what button to press and when. Even when there are menus etc, you just "do it"?
Is this a correct assumption how the controller works for you?
I have the EXACT same effect when I play, by using keyboard and mouse.
I loose myself in MMOs PVP, Skyrim and all games that isnt just "diablo type click, click click".
The keyboard and mouse becomes a "part" of me.
I react automaticly without ever thinking. Just like you describe with your controller.
I move VERY fast, which I cant come close to on my controller!
In fact,
I get so into the game that I duck in real when a fireball gets shoot at me and move my body around and jumping like a badman when arrows keeps hitting me!
Just like you, the keyboard/mouse ADDS to my immersion.
A controller (Which I have) limits what I can do, AND, FOR ME, moving with the controller, breaks immersion, since you press hard on the moving control when you REEAAAALY need to move fast. And I lack many hotkeys to do X quickly.
I am not ignorat towards controllers. They simply limits MY gameplay, in MY View.
Important:
My post is NOT any argument that a keyboard and mouse are better then a controller! Or wise versa!
I only want to point out that players has different views on what works best for them as controls.
Even among players who prefers a keyboard and mouse, often have VASTLY different setup of hotkeys and how they play.
This is just as different on what people likes, as keyboard vs controller.
I have nothing against games that offers the use for a controller.
I just dont want the Keyboard/mouse option to get gimped! =)
There is no point as i have other games i only play with k/board and mouse, Skyrim SE, Metro LL Re-Dux, FarCry 2 & 3, all The Tomb Raiders, HalfLife 2, Dishonored, Stalker etc, i have no issues playing TW3 with the PS4 and wouldn't play it any other way.
So, we say the same thing. What controls players prefers, are not the same for all players, or games. =).
I need to learn how to post short, but well explained, answers like yours! :p.
I'd like to add that I only play GTA with a controller ;). Moving the car/bike was aweful with a keyboard.
In the comment right above yours I state that the controller works fine in other games, Wicher, Rocket League, etc. the fact that the words Sprint or Wait don't even show up as options on the Skyrim menu made me think it was a Skyrim problem.
