(Glitch) Enchantment effect permanently on after unequipping item
This isn't really a problem, since it's about a positive status effect. It's more that I'm curious what might have caused it, and how to remove it if something similar would happen again with a negative status effect.

I have a set of Elven Armor that is enchanted to boost magicka regeneration 22%. But I've noticed that even when not wearing it, the effect is still there in my Active Effects tab, with the Elven Armor still listed as the source of the effect. Now, if I put the armor back on again, I get a second entry in the Active Effects list, looking exactly like the first one. The new one, however, does go away when unequipping the amor. But the first appears to be permanently stuck on.

Does anyone know what causes this? And, in case this would happen to a negative effect somehow later on, what would I have to do to get rid of it?

(I did some searching on Google, but everything I found was related to mods. I haven't installed a single mod.)

If you take the armor off, save and restart the game is the effect still there?

It is. I've opened, loaded, saved, and closed the game a few times (while wearing a different set of clothes) and the effect is still there.

Ok. I noticed a glitch with the UI where it did not always update current effects but it was not persistant thru a reload.

I'm not sure what is the cause of your issue.

Have you used Console Commands?
because sometimes they can cause it.

The other thing I've heard of causing it was the standing stones, so have you tried changing that?

Whenever I mess around with console commands for fun, i usually restart the game afterwards (to reenable achievements), and reload a save from before any commands were used (just to reduce the risk of problems). For the most time, the only exception is if I use commands to fix broken quests, but I haven't had any of those in the current playthrough. (Also note that while I've previously gone through the old version of Skyrim one and a half time, this is my first playthrough on Special Edition.) The game is pretty much as clean and unaltered as it can be.

Regarding standing stones, I've had the mage stone active since the beginning of the game (because I'm trying an unusual and somewhat impractical character build, and want conjuration to rise as fast as possible). At some point, I might try to switch to another stone and see if that changes anything about the glitch.

Console commands don't deactivate achievements, but they can jinx your game, so reloading a save from before you messed around with them is a good idea.

I hope it fixs it, it was the only other thing I've heard of having that effect.

Huh. I thought console commands did disable achievements until you rebooted the game, but now that I think about it, I haven't actually seen anyone say it. I just assumed it was that way, since (if I recall correctly) that's how it worked in Fallout 3.

Wait, it gets weirder. I think it might be something with the UI, like casualsailor suggested, after all. I just started up the game again (because I wanted to check what would happen if I completely removed the armor from my inventory). But when I started it up, the effect was no longer in the active effects list. So I tried equipping the armor again. What happened then was that the Elven Armor's effect did not show up in the list normally, but the effect of another item with a similar (but not identical) enchantment was listed twice instead.

I think it might be that one of the positions in the active effects list somehow copies the description of an entry next to it instead of showing its own description, or something like that.

That sounds like what I had experienced. I'd have two items which gave me the same effect (i.e. +x% to archery) but instead of the UI showing both items it showed the same item twice. I think that is a genuine UI glitch.

Yeah, that seems to be it. It's the Elven Armor and a ring. Both of them have the exact same enchantment (turns out the enchantment was identical after all. I didn't look at the numbers), and the game seems to describe both effects as coming from whichever item I equip first.

I guess that solves it. Nice to know what's happening.
