The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

View Stats:
"You MUST set the Virtual Directory as the same HD as the usual mod install folder: Selected HD: C:/ - Expected HD:"
So I was trying to do the Nexus Skyrim Special Edition Setup and this is what it displays:

Choose the directory where you would like to store your Skyrim Special Edition Mods
Mod Directory: B:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\SkyrimSE\Mods
Choose the directory where you would like to store your Skyrim Special Edition instal info
C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\SkyrimSE\Install Info

Virtual mod install setup:
Select the folder where NMMwill place extracted and installed mods (NMM will automatically create a "VirtualInstall" folder in it
Virtual Install: C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\SkyrimSE

My issue is I have no clue where I'm supposed to link the virtual installer thingy. This is also where it uses for a preset. I've ran it as admin, and looked it up and found nothing...
Where ever I place it, it shows a small red cycle with an exclamation mark next to it saying:
"You MUST set the Virtual Directory as the same HD as the usual mod install folder: Selected HD: C:/ - Expected HD:"
It won't even show me the expected HD so that doesn't help me much.

What was the answer if you figured it out? Cause mine is doing the same thing, and I can't for the life of me figure it out.

You guys are using a broken down and abandon mod manager. The NMM project has been dropped and is no longer supported. It also has developed many issues in working.

If you want a like manager, use MO2.

If you want a pain free simple to use manager, use Vortex which is the NMM replacement on Nexus. Here is a link on how to install and use it.

1) use vortex instead

2) it's telling you that the drive letter of the virtual install directory needs to be the same as the drive letter of the drive where the game is installed. That's because it uses hard links which don't work across drives. (a hard link is an alias essentially so that files appear to be in more than one directory without having to copy them and waste space)

For anyone still looking for a fix, just close NMM and anything VR related running (like Steam VR) and reopen. If this does not work right away, try rescanning for Skyrim VR. I did all of these things and it worked, not sure exactly what fixed it.

And in my personal opinion, Vortex is horrible and makes no sense, last I checked. MO2 (Mod Organizer 2, found on the Nexus website and is a widely trusted and great mod manager) and NMM (Nexus Mod Manager, found on the Nexus website and still maintained by the community) work much better.

NMM is slowly dying, it's ok for those who have been using it for years, but any new players are better off learning either Vortex or MO2.

NMM was abandoned by Nexus because it was becoming harder and harder to maintain, which I imagine the community who are keeping it up to date have discovered.

Vortex and MO2 have improved quite a bit over the last year or so, and there are plenty of guides to help people learn them. And quite a few modding guides take it as granted that players are using one of them. If you are a new player coming into the modding scene start with one of these two.

NMM was great in it's day. Matter of fact a few long time mod users still use NMM but that's because they have been using it forever and can deal with some of the inadequacies for lack of a better word. But new users/modders should understand that Vortex has replaced NMM as their Official Mod Manager and it's become one hellova mod manager. MO2 is great as well.

Gopher's tutorial videos on Vortex are the bible for this mod manager. They're so good Vortex includes them with it.
