Certain mods are causing CTD, when they didn't before. Computer problem?

I'm just setting up mods and have been testing first in Whiterun.

I just found that Dawnguard Protected Cities, which adds a few npcs to each city, is now causing a CTD when it didn't before.

I've found a retexture mod and a weapon mod also causing CTD for me in Whiterun. Idk why those types of mods would do that.

Separately, player home mods don't seem to work for me either.

Does this indicate a problem with my computer?

Hey guys, here's an update, not sure if you'd want to know or not, but I've made my semi-final load order and I'm going to post it now just in case. (Let me know if there's a way to make it drop-down-able).

There are many. I know there's a 255 (esp?) limit, I think. I'm at 385 plugins from 645 mods. So I'll prbly have to make bashed patches where I can.

Their order isn't necessarily finished either. LOOT isn't recognizing some of the plugins as being activated. Also, I've remained as consistent w/ the guide as I can but I've added mods outside of the guide and also some mods from bethesda.net.


Also, MO2 is telling me:

The masters for some plugins (esp/esl/esm) are not enabled.
The game will crash unless you install and enable the following plugins:
Bring Out Your Dead.esp
Dawnstar.esp
Oblivion Gates in Cities.esp
Storefront.esp

I think this has to do with JK's Skyrim Arthmoor's patch. I used the merged AIO option in the fomod.

Edit: And I've just added patches from QUASIPC that I haven't put in order yet.

Edit: I'm not sure if Dual sheathe redux will work with this list (after porting it)
I'm not final on the animations at all b/c I'm using Ultimate Combat and haven't tested their compatibility. I'd love to add more.
And I'm also not sure if Improved Closefaced Helmets will work either b/c I also added that in.

Hmm I just did my first test w/ barely any mods and had a CTD upon entering Whiterun from Breezehome. Not sure why.
And Breezehome was missing wooden panels in the walls. I took a screenshot, not sure how to show it here though.

Now I took off every mod except Alt Start and USSEP and I couldn't even start the game. It crashes at the Bethesda logo. Weird.

Edit: Oh and SKSE engine fixes was on as well.

You did start a new game correct ... you can just turn off mods and load a save like that. The word I'm looking for is BOOM!

Also 9-9 should be directly below alternate start, and you don't want it installed if you're not running a bash patch. Other than that I don't see anything obvious

Do you know why game would be crashing w/ minimal mods? I added in two files from SSE engine fixes into the Skyrim SE folder and I've cleaned the vanilla skyrim /DLC files.

well there are two parts to the mod... the part you install, and the DLL loader you copy into the game folder. Double check (or just reinstall) the three files SKSE64 copies into the game folder. I've had issues like that before when adding and removing mods... doesn't really make sense to me either, that's a pretty simple load.

Personally I'd try moving 11-b just above Alternate start ... (11 b IcePenguinWorldMap.esp) But I really don't see anything bad there at all. I've never used quest conflict fixes myself ... you could try unchecking that and test... but I only say that because I'm not familiar with it.

I'm not using 11 b now. Just 6 6 USSEP and 23 17 ALT Start and Engine fixes. (I'm understanding the references now, so you don't have to type out the names if you don't want to.)

you only need the dlls and the exe, no need to copy the text files into the game folder. Did you use a guide to install SKSE or follow the directions and just copy all the scripts into the scripts folder?

I think at first I used a guide but this time I prbly just reinstalled w/o a guide using the downloaded file from the first time.

After deleting the txt files, the game did not crash at Beth logo. So I guess that was the problem? Weird.

Went back to that short list of mods and I still had same issues though. Maybe Lanterns of Skyrim causing crash?

Modding 101... divide and conquer. Shut off half, fire it up... if it loads the issue is in the other half. add in half of that group, test again, rince and repeat ... just be careful of hard requirements. Don't load SkyUI if SKSE is not istalled as an example.

Easy enough to do with a hand full of mods... can get pretty bad when you have 3 or 4 hundred in the LO
