Wrye Bash patch makes my game crash a few seconds into showing the main menu when starting up

Hi, very strange thing happened. My game suddenly stopped starting up properly and would crash randomly during the Bethseda logo or a few seconds into showing the main screen.

I had not made any changes to my mod list order and I found that the problem was fixed and the game loaded fine when I unchecked the bashed patch... Does anyone know why this is the case and how to fix this? Thanks

You probably merged a plugin you shouldn't have.

thanks, would it possible if you could identify which is the culprit if I post my list of affected mods in the bashed patch? I have lots of mods :(

If plugins being pulled into the bash is indeed the problem, and it sounds like the most plausible thing, then you can simply tell Wrye to stop merging plugins. This is going to sound a bit confusing because of terminology but merging plugins is not required for Wrye Bash to merge or Bash leveled lists together. It even mentions this in a tooltip. That function is just to "save plugin space." The problem with that though is that merging plugins requires some finesse and Wrye Bash's merger just goes "We're all at the bottom now. You're welcome."

If you are pressed for space without your plugins being merged. I would, as mentioned, tell Wrye Bash to stop doing that part and learn how to do it properly with xEdit or the standalone merge plugins tool. I'm on mobile so I can't give you links to either of those atm.

If you are within the normal plugin limit even without things being merged, then just turn the merge plugins function off and you're good to go.

Another (and in my opinion better) option is to drop Wrye Bash altogether unless you're using it as your manager, for certain debugging indications or for settings tweaks and pick up matorsmash. That's on the Oldrim nexus but it works for the SE out of the box. It being found only on the Oldrim nexus is a simple matter of bookkeeping on mator's end.

Yes! You were right! it was the merge patches bit that was the culprit! I will manually merge them myself with SSEEdit like I used to do with old Skyrim.
