Skyrim SE crashing on start
okay, so i have been told this is not the same issue as one that is apparantly common. when i start the game my screen goes black for a split second after clicking "play" on the launcher (always happens to me, and i assume thats normal for everyone. then i hear the skyrim music, but instead of main menu showing up, the screen goes grey and off to the side a little bit.

Windows 10, Intel 3.1Ghz i5-2400, 64bit, 8 GB ram i think all that should be fine, the only thing that MAY be an issue is my graphics, its a Intel HD graphics 2000, says it has a physical memory of 8073MB, processor speed of 3093 Mhz (which is almost 3.1 Ghz i think?)

i know intel integrated graphics are not very good for gaming and if i had the budget id buy a better graphics card, a power souce that could run it, and a case that could fit the new components inside it, i was only able to get this upgrade over my old pc cause it was free.

but i was running regular Skyrim and Borderlands 2 (not sure which is more graphically demanding, i WOULD have thought Skyrim, but i think BL2 may actually have had poorer performance (and thats with a mod that sacrificed visuals for performance), i cant make any ryhme or reason out of the numbers listed on graphics cards) on a W7, intel E7500 2.93 Ghz duo core proc, 6gb ram, 64 bit, with graphics being intel graphics media accelerator driver (Q45/Q43 express chipset) so i figure i should probably be able to play SE with the new one.

Attempting to run this on an Intel hd 2000 may not be possible. 4600s can not handle this. The HD 620 has been confirmed to work with the most recent driver updates, but is ironically half the power the of the minimum specs.

You can attempt a few things here;

First, make sure your igpu driver is up to date.

Second, make sure you are attempting to run SSE on low to begin with.

Third, try to use bethini from nexusmods.com to manually go below the default lows used by bethesda's launcher.

would it be better to try SE with that mod or just run reg skyrim with the HD texture pack dlc, or even just regular skyrim without the hd texture pack? its not like id be losing money by just playing regular, i got SE for free cause i already had all the dlc for the old one before SE came out.

I mean it would be nice to be able to play SE, but graphics are not the most important thing about a game and from what ive heard thats all SE changed really, plus the vast majority of the mods i used havent been remade for SE anyway.

You have been told wrong. SSE benefits from a 64bit engine over the old games 32bit engine, giving it better memory control.

If your gpu drivers are already up to date and SSE won't run, you may have to stick to the original.

Bethini is just a tool that simplifies and expands reading/editing the ini files compared to the launcher used by Bethesda. There are also low texture mods.

okay, what does better memory control do? im not much of a techie, that just sounds like theres less odds of file corruption or something but i never had issues with that in original Skyrim.

how do i update my drivers and which ones specifically should i be updating? in the graphics application there was a link for downloads from intel but i couldnt tell what was what.

Your assumption that it helps reduce corruption is correct. Basically, 32bit string limitations are awkward, as most programs need to read/write in 38 length strings. 64bit allows reading/writing without having to break up the original string into formats that fit into a 32bit algorithm. -atleast that's what I got from reading a brief article on it-

For your driver, go to device manager -> display adapters -> right click the Intel hd 2000 -> properties -> update driver.

The old system was a buggy mess because Bethesda wrote it that way. Granted, there are speed benefits associated with 64bit processor architecture, and depending on your OS it can make it a lot easier to address the higher memory ranges, but stable code is stable code.

Skyrim SE's a DirectX 11 game - this 2011 card only handles up to 10.1, so it's likely that you'll need something a bit more current.
