Cannot Start Missing In Action
Hi All,
Initiating the Missing in Action Quest has been hampered by a troublesome bug where Fralia Gray Mane dies randomly without cause. I am prepared to revert to a save from before she had died, but would prefer not to because I did not know this was still an issue in SE and I have no idea how long ago she died.
I have sucessfully revived Fralia on two separate attempts using "recycleactor" and "resurrect" in the console. However, I found that upon revival she did not initiate the dialogue that allows you to ask more about her son, Thorald, and begin the quest by meeting her at House Gray Mane. She had the argument in Whiterun Market with the Battleborns already. When I entered "sqv" in the console, it said "Enabled: no, State: stopped"
I solved this with "resetquest MS09" and was able to talk with Fralia. The starting message for MIA appeared onscreen, but Fralia did not budge from her stall, nor did a quest marker appear. (I have checked this by toggling MIA as active and inactive under the quests tab on the start menu.) When I try talking to her further, she only says "Please, let's meet in private," and nothing else happens. Waiting for her to go home for the day did not work either as the door stayed locked and (predictably) picking it made me tresspass, and she told me to leave.

So far, this is what I have tried with console commmands:
  1. Revive Fralia
    • "prid 0001a684"
    • "moveto player"
    • "resurrect"
  2. Delete Fralia's Coffin
    • Click on coffin in console
    • "markfordelete"
    • "disable"
  3. Reset Missing in Action
    • "resetquest MS09"
    • Reset Fralia; "prid 0001a684", "resetAI"

Is there anything more I can try before reverting or restarting my game?

use simply knock to avoid tresspassing

Thanks for the suggestion Mystery G man. It definitely fixed the trespassing problem, but the dialogue scene that advances MIA did not trigger and talking to Fralia and Avulstein didn't do anything either. I ended up reverting instead of continuing to mess around with the console.

I think I figured out how Fralia died though. The save where she was still alive was before I became a werewolf and had the initial forced transformation in whiterun. Sometimes when this sequence happens, a random whiterun npc dies when the cell reloads after you spawn at gallows rock. This happened to Idolaf Battleborn on my last playthrough (which I also fixed by reverting) and this time it was Fralia. Now she is alive and well so far.
