You should actually read what Survival mode entails before "going in blind" so you don't have issues like this. It tells you this on the screen where you activate it IIRC.
So what? As long as the op is enjoying the paid mods AND Bethesda doesn't make free mods harder to use its no harm, no foul.
depends on your race, some races are easier to handle in it. I do kind of prefer the survival mode, it handles things in a decent way without being too nasty (though on my mage playthrough right now that fatigue is killer if you don't rest so that is one reason that leveling up isn't a problem)
