Surfblasted's SSE Build (WIP)

[Surfblasted]

This is just a post to share my build so that I can log issues and - hopefully - solutions as they arise. I've been building slowly and testing each stage of the build pretty extensively - for me at least - and have got to the point where I need help resolving the remaining problems. Any guidance offered will be gratefully received :)

I am not quite a novice at this - but still pretty wet behind the ears. I had a 200 plus plugin build in Oldrim before moving on to FO4, where I currently have a stable game consisting of 350 plus plugins. But each game brings it's own challenges and SSE is no different, despite being a 'remaster' of sorts of Skyrim.

I find I still learn something new every day and am still capable of making newbie errors at any moment. :)

I have not made any merges or patches at this point - just relying on a Smashed Patch from Mator Smash to deal with conflicts for now.

Yep, coc. Be careful where you coc to though, for instance coc thalmorembassy04 (or maybe 05) will start the diplomatic immunity quest and show complete up to the torture room part.

LOL - I could live with that, as I always play with console on a save I intend to ditch, or a test build with a short life span :)

I have to say - looking at the LO above - with a clear pair of eyes after a night's sleep...

What the Heck happened to my LO?

I spent all of yesterday messing around trying to get DynDOLOD to work - even upgraded to the latest beta version - only to discover I just needed to remove one esp - 'cause pixies - and DynDOLOD would have returned to work without hours of effort.

I was asked to post a LOOT list, so ran the program and copied the results. I didn't look at it much, it was close to bed time - but did stop to count the number of patches I had in the mix (roughly 45) with a view to maybe merging a few to give me some headroom.

But this morning I looked again and instantly saw some changes had happened when I ran LOOT - Firstly, Legacy of the Dragonborn had got a promotion to top of the list. It had previously been at no. 12 under Beyond Skyrim. Suddenly, Verdant, RAO and Relighting Skyrim have leapt up above CRF.

I'm a little shocked - and am trying to work out if this means my Smashed patch is now toast?

I need coffee for certain!

I think it best I restore the LO to what it was when I ran Dyndolod for a start - just been for a walk outside Whiterun and it ain't pretty!

Give me an hour and I'll get it fixed :)

OK - latest plugins list. Sorry it's not from LOOT - it want's to move stuff around in an odd fashion, so I'm leaving it alone right now.

Couple of changes from earlier - I removed one of the two patches I had for CRF & BCS and more importantly, have moved RDO to after ASLAL with all of it's patches. I didn't notice any issues before, but better minds than mine say this is where it should be :)

I've rebuild the smashed patch and re-run FNIS. I haven't re-run DynDOLOD yet - even tho' it's got issues, see below;

This is the view of Whiterun's exterior from inside the city wall. The latest version of DynDOLOD Resources has option to improve this view as well as Solitude's exterior.

To me, this is worse than the previous version - which was pretty dire, but at least had sails on the windmill. I'm going to guess I borked the uninstall/install process when I upgraded - so I've got my work cut out for me today.

Any thoughts on the list above would be most welcome - as always :)

I haven't looked at the newest beta yet, but that looks like "far" LODs are loading into the mid LOD spots ... did you play with near and far grids at all?

Not that I'm aware of. I wouldn't even know where such settings were - and have run the process a number of times ticking the same boxes I have always used, as outlined in Storm's guide he posted for me a while back.

I've just run the process again, after switching the LO to what is posted above - even though none of the masters in DynDOLOD.esp were touched and started a fresh game. It's just the same, no mill sails and trees popping into view about 100 yards in front.

But the water reflections are jaw-dropping - always worth a pic :)

Also you have DynDOLOD's main output above its resources. Not only is that interaction particularly off, the main output should be at the bottom under TexGen.

And AFAIK resources should be higher. Go check out my or Avrie's build posts for DynDOLOD positioning in the left pane

Hi Storm, I've always stuck the output there to corrispond with the esm it contains. I will definately try dragging it under Texgen :)

As for looking at yours and Avrie's lists, I'm struggling to recognise what it is that tells both of you that that's the right place - heading over for a good long gander at both and see if I can figure it out lol.

The output needs to be the very last mod always, (ESP on the bottom) Tex Gen is right above the outputs. Resourses are ALWAYS directly under any HD vanilla textures, the ESM is Always directly under the last master it references, LODs are Always directly under the mods they update. And that's really all there is to it. Not brain surgery Surf.

Michael from Gamer Poets vid is really good, but he waffles on the LOD placements ... Sheson was much more specific when I talked to him. The rules above are more or less fixed, if you follow them Dlod WILL work correctly.

Also FYI ... If you check the info on Groups in the new LOOT you'll see two of the groups are specifically for reproccer outputs, and Dlod has it's own group on the very bottom

Well, I can - after two tiring days of attempts to fix this - say I've tried.

Moved things to where they are supposed to be, removed the HD texture and LODS mod I added when I upgraded 'cause Noble Skyrim was a requirement I hadn't picked up.

Fired it all up again (feeling hopeful) and returned to the book I've been reading to while away the time.

Just happened to look up as Dyndolod was doing it's thing - only to see hundreds of lines scrolling up the screen stating "Model not defined" followed by some element that should have had one I believe. But I let it continue and installed it all the same. The end result was slightly better - a couple of small plants added to the view from Whiterun.

So I'm giving up with the new beta and going back to the one that worked so beautifully before.

If it works it will raise my spirits a little, before I attempt the upgrade to my system this weekend.

Ho-hum. it's not as spectacular as it used to be (see pic below)

but it's a bit better than it was. Trees at the moment seem to have a draw distance a little bit further than the grass, but not by much. Trees only pop into view on the throat of the world when you reach the meadery - used to be visible wherever you were.

One final post in here today - The way I'm feeling about SSE it could so easily be my last.

I've never experienced so many issues building a workable LO before - not since I cut my first tooth with the help of many patient friends in Oldrim. Reading Sheson's feelings about SSE it may not all be down to my lack of experience. But it is wearing me down problem by problem.

And now it seems I might have two more to add to the list. The MCM page for FNIS Sexy Move SE has changed - no longer displaying the "player uses 360 walk and turn" option, or the selections for NPC's. Also, MO2 no longer seems able to restart by itself anymore when I finish running a tool or exit the game. I now have to click the button to get it running again.

This all feels like something gradually falling apart - maybe my SSD is sick of my antics and looking for a quick escape.

Anyhoo, enough rambling. I need a good night of solid sleep before tomorrow's fun and games :)
