Blood on the ice Jorleif refuses to talk to me

When I try to talk to Jorleif but the objective "Get assistance from Jorleif" does not disappear. I tried downloading unoffical skyrim patch for skyrim special edition on Nexus, but it didn't work.

First of all, what mods do you use?
Do you use Loot and/or SKSE64?

No, I use mods but niether Loot nor SKSE

I assume that those would help my issue. I just checked out Loot (downloading it now) but I've had trouble using Mod Organizer to play with SKSE :/

well I assume you have his permission to investigate after that you don't need him really. I had the same however you can ignore that part I mean ask around, follow blood trail, ask key, etc. that quest is buggy at best.

If you want the quest to resolve 'perfectly' in terms of being bug free:
- speak to all the witnesses nearby first
- follow the trail of blood to the home
- speak to Jorleif about investigating
- get the key to the home from the mother
- inside the home, grab the Strange Amulet and the Butcher items, including one of the Pamphlets
- talk to Giordana
- show the amulet to Calixto and sell it to him
- ignore Giordana's advice and talk to Wuunferth
- do as Wuunferth says to prevent the next murder
- Congrats!

Of course that won't stop other unusual factors from interfering with the quest: dead NPCs, certain Dark Brotherhood quest objectives, etc.
