How do you charge a weapon when using a PS4 controller?
I've finally got my PS4 controller working - had to change Steam controller setting to generic before they'd stop changing each time I loaded the game.

But I want to recharge Dawnbreaker and the menu says press Esc - which obviously closes the menu.

I can't be the only player using this controller - so how are you getting around this?

Update - I had Hold To Sprint installed and removing it had one unexpected result - pressing Esc to charge a weapon no longer closes the menu, it does nothing instead. I've tried every key on the keyboard to no effect - so I'm getting by with the following workaround.

Select the weapon - unplug the controller - select weapon with mouse (Esc changes to T) press T to open soul gem menu - press enter to charge - once full, reconnect the controller.

Not immersive - but will do whilst I continue testing my new build.

If anyone has a fix for this, I would love to hear from them :)

download ds4 windows.
http://ds4windows.com/
it will let you use a ds4 controller properly, as in games will recognize it as an xbox controller and let you use the console control scheme

input mapper is another alternative

Funnily enough, I used DS4 for Oldrim, but was under the impression it wasn't required for SSE. Thanks for the reminder, I'll give it a go :)

Update - tried DS4 but couldn't get the share button or swipe pad to function in game - so couldn't access the journal menu to even try making changes.

the touch pad acts as a mouse, just use the share button, which will become the "back button" from an xbox controller, and the start button. Also make sure you run ds4 windows in exclusive mode, or "hide ds4windows" in the settings

As I said, I've used DS4 successfully before for Skyrim, but for some reason can't get it set up to work in SSE. I've tried the 'hide' thing - even tried various options in Steam controller options, but with DS4 running, the touch pad and share button don't function. Options button opens something other than Journal (can't remember) and without access to the journal I can't alter controller buttons.

But don't worry, I'm getting along OK without it now. Baring in mind how many mods I'm running that offer keyboard shortcuts - which I also can't use - I'm getting to be quite an expert at inventory navigation with a D Pad LOL.

Thanks for trying buddy :)

Did you fix it? I have the same issue in SSE (heavily modded via Wabbajack), none of the controller mods I've tried worked. Like I can do everything, even quicksave and quickload, just the add charge doesn't work. Also shows the Escape key.

Why not just use your mouse for that part?

Many people, me included, stream their System into the living room and just want to use it as a console from time to time.. that's when every input needs to work without exceptions, basically.

I play all my games from my couch on my TV and use both a controller and mouse. It isn't rocket science...

Does it matter how you are playing your games? It's about accessibility and what you do is irrelevant for people who don't want to do the same thing. We're looking for an actual fix and not for a semi optimal fix. I could use mousemode on my controller with moonlight streaming, but before I do that I want an actual in-game fix.
