Frost keeps walking away from me
So I just did the quest to get Frost, but whenever I dismount, he would start walking away from me and walk to Black-Briar Lodge

I have the horse whistle mod to call him back, but it's rather annoying having him walk away randomly and not stay put. I already disabled my mods to see if they're were causing a problem.

Any help is appreciated.

*UPDATE* I don't know what I did, but it fixed itself

I haven't done this quest since 2011, so I can't recall if you actually end up owning Frost or not. If not, then he's going to go home every time. If you do end up owning him, then he shouldn't be (obviously).

Open the console, click on him, type setownership and see if that helps.

Is horse whistle being loaded after AFT/IAFT (if you're using either)?

Better Horses might patch over whatever AI issue you're having, as well.

Edit: I'd also recommend testing these issues out on a clean save, because AI-related sh*t script could be baked into the save itself and disabling your mods might not cut it.

Have you checked the wikis? They usually have good information about bugs and bug solutions.

I never had this problem before on any other character, and I've tried setownership.

I disabled my mods to see if they were causing it, but it still happens. Better horses didn't fix anything when I tried it.

I'll see in a clean save when I have time (little busy with college stuff atm).

Wikis weren't helping so I came here to see if anyone knows how to fix this

I just wish my horse would stay where I put him and NOT dash into fights - especially when I get off him some way from the zone and walk up to the zone, I think I should be far enough away and take off the couple of outer bandits, I'm halfway through mowing down three or four bandits when I hear a loud whinny and he's run all the way to join in and get killed...

Sometimes I think that once you *own* Frost, the only way to keep him alive is to switch to another horse at the stables, then get that other horse killed so the game assumes you don't have a mount.

I wish I could sell or even give him back to Maven Black-Briar, but there's no option to do so...

Cut him up and make some stew. Best use for a horse. Bloody things eat too much, crap too much, and are a nuisance all around. Can make yourself a nice headband or cloak out of his hide too as a memento of your journeys together.
