Good creature retexture mod?
Noticed how crappy a lot of the animals in the game look compared to people and landscape etc. but cant easily locate a upgrade for them on the Nexus. Any ideas?

Start here, then click on the author's name and look at his files. He's done some superb overhauls to various monster's looks. Has 2k/4k alternatives so you can pick what is best for your rig.

And it should be widely compatible yeah? Since it's just new textures?

Yes. Doesn't even create a plugin. I'm using the 2k textures and they look great.

Every texture mod by Kajuan.

Lo behold and bask in the glory of 4k Draugr. Yeah ok they're not animals but get it anyway.

Kaju made just a handful albeit very high quality so you'll probably want Bellyache's HD dragons along with animal & creature pack.

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6839 creature pack

Those should cover you for the most part. If not - or you don't like a particular model, just browse the texture & model section. Oldrim textures work in SSE as well if you feel the selection is limited.

Edit: Ah too slow! Kajuan really is good and worth recommending.

Question, the 2k files all seem to be in the optional section of the files, do I need the main file too then overwrite with the lower rez version or just take the 2k one outright?

I just took the 2k ones outright. No need for the main files. I think they are in the optional section just because the textures look best in 4k.
