Good lightweight race overhaul mods?
Long story short, I'm bored of having a breton every time because it's OP compared to other races. I want to be able to choose a different race without feeling I'm gimped, but most mods I've tried introduce broken features that either make every class OP (like 75% all resist, or 14 powers per race).

I just want a little rebalance so a particular race isn't completely broken compared to the rest. I would create this kind of mod myself but I have no idea how to do it.

One I've been looking at for another playthrough is Imperious - Races of Skyrim. It's sort of a medium overhaul, but has some very interesting changes. Might be worth checking out. Unsure if it's too much for what you are after, though.

Thanks. I was looking at this one right now actually, it looked pretty decent, although it doesn't look *that* balanced. E.g. the orc jumps and causes and earthquake (wtf).

I may give this a try while something better comes around... it doesn't look very bad honestly. At least it's pretty immersive.

No worries.

Yeah, I think it's just enough changes to make a difference and enhance gameplay somewhat.

I don't mind about the Orc thing, it's not too crazy. At least don't fly or become invulnerable. Considering the rest of the races have equal amounts of powers as well, it appears to be very balanced and thought out. Which is why it caught my eye. Some of the overhauls in the past, are just awful or pointless. This actually seems like it would be fun, to use and fight against. Would add a different dynamic to battles, that's for sure.

The best way to do what you want is to stop power gaming and start role playing. Choose a race because of what you want to look at or what sounds cool or fitting for a skill/class build you're looking to play. That and realize that this game is easy and you don't need to power game to do well in the slightest.

Come on, you speak like you never played the game. I can tell right here and right now that I'm not the only one who wanted to build a heavy armor orc with a greatsword and 21 hours in became the mightiest Nightingale in history, with some necromancery added.

It's not due to power gaming or whatever, it's because the options you are given are underwhelming compared to the broken 30x backstabing, dragon-oneshooting power of the dragonbretonborn. That's actually what mods are here for (at least for me), which is adding balance and flavor, and get rid of the bullcrap.

"Look! There's this legendary weapon from 2000 years ago with great powers, but it's useless because I didn't wait a couple of weeks to level up 3 levels and get the upgraded version" -> Mod it.

"Look! Every race has a terrible skill set, except the breton!" -> Mod it.

"Look! Destruction magic is worthless, unless you already go to level 40 and are capable of crafting a 100% cost reduction set!" -> Mod it.

And the story goes by.

Besides, my question wasn't asking for mentality or if I should play the game in a different way (I'll play the way I have fun anyway), I was just asking for a mod.

Yeah, agreed. Well, so far, it's not game-breaking. Combined with one of those perk overhauls that makes perk trees actually worth it (e.g. the speechcraft tree has shouting talents) it looks good.

I'm installing a few more mods for sound overhauling and picking up books, but I think this combination is good enough for a lengthy play.

You could try the Disparity mod. It was made for Oldrim but everything I've read says it will work with SSE.

Nah, this adds a lot of garbage on top of race rebalances: Classes, stealth tree rework, standing stones, also adds variety according to gender... Sorry but that's not what I'm looking for.

True. I rarely care about my build so much and tend to focus more on my character's personality and motives, activities (such as hunting, light adventuring and so on), the world around me, who I'm going to meet, whether or not I'm planning on settling-down. The list goes on.

Builds are pretty cookie-cutter, to be honest. It's hard to go wrong and easy to create. As you say, aside from damage sponging on harder difficulties, it's not a tough game (unless you overhaul the combat, of course). I long stopped worrying about such things and focused more on the characters themselves.

I'm hoping it will mix well with Ordinator and Apocalypse. That would be a great combination.

Uhhh, no. I play the game plenty, and I have for years. I just don't power game it; you should try it some time.

By the way, what you are describing as broken and then doing is exactly power gaming. Why don't you try actually building a character concept instead of "choosing all of the OP things and use them all together"?

Spot on, glad some one agrees. The game opens up so much more when you don't munchkin the ♥♥♥♥ out of it. It's over 7 years old, just play it to play it at this point.
