Thonar Silver-Blood bug?

I dealt with Nepos first, found out who he was. Later I went to the treasury and Betrid starts attacking me so I kill her while the other NPCs just go about their business, which I found strange. Then Thonar and another NPC attack me. They won't die, but finally the stop attacking me and I can then talk to Thonar who says his wife was killed by Madanach (I forget his name). I thought Betrid was his wife. The whole scenario is very confusing. It seems bugged in some way. Should I be playing with the unnoficial patch? Thank you.

Should you use the Unofficial Patch - absolutely, as it fixes literally thousands of bugs.

Although this was written for original Skyrim, the basic principles apply to SSE as well.
If you refuse to install the patch, then there is little anyone can do to help, and further efforts to do so are pointless, as so many solutions to problems rely upon it.

Installed the patch, still seems bugged. Nana Ildane and Donel got involved and fought Thonar and were killed and so still lie dead. Thonar won't let me handle the King in Rags. The bard says I should leave the city. All because Betrid rushed up and attacked me and forced me to fight. I guess this quest line is dead to me. So I shouldn't have done Nepos first?
