When to play the Dragonborn DLC...?
Hi guys,

Whats the general thoughts on when to do the Dragonborn DLC these days...? I am about to start the Dark Brotherhood quest line but apart from that i have done all the guilds, and i have done the Dawnguard DLC already...So my main question is should i finish the main story and the civil war story before playing Dragonborn...?

Any help/suggestions/comments apreciated - cheers guys...

Doesn't much matter in my experience. There's a few...maybe even just one, line changes recognizing your having beat the main story but outside of that... go for it!

No. Just make sure you are a reasonable level with some decent gear to start. Dragonborn ramps up the difficulty a good bit compared to mainland Skyrim. If you've done all that though, you should be plenty tough enough. I usually run that questline, or at least parts of it along with side content, when I need a break out of the story. It's pretty interesting and has some fun locations.

Dawnguard is about 10, Dragonborn is about 20. For the low end, anyways. Anything after 20-25 and you should be fine in DB, lower if you're comfortable with it.

Talking just pure story/quest ordering? The only story bit that impacts anything in Dragonborn is Hermaeus Mora's Daedric Quest and the Skyrim Main Quest; if you've finished the MQ or killed a handful of Dragons then Miraak a few different things to say but that's about it.

Ok cool - yeah i am lv47 so i am not worried about difficulty i was more curious as to whether there would be any spoilers or some reason to finish the main story first, but i guess there is not... Thanks guys, i will start dragonborn after i finish the dark brotherhood and save the main story till after...

I leave Dragonborn until after the main quest. It feels right to defeat the first dragonborn after defeating Alduin - he even references this if you do it this way.

Dragonborn dlc can be done once you gotten the quest to travel to solstheim

its do able at early levels but also can be completed on higher levels

the only thing i must say about 2 DLC booses:

is never use your own weapon to attack and to kill them or the combat scripts bug out.

instead get your self from conjuration once its 75 the spell dremora lord.

use dremora lord to kill harkoon from Dawnguard dlc
and Miraak from Dragonborn dlc

this way you can complet both without any bug from lowest level , 50+ and or 300+
due to dremor lord has a fix low damage what will not bug out those 2 boss fight scripts.

if you use your own weapons and you do to much damage per hit it can cause both to become invicble.

as for followers to prevent same bug give them iron sword or some other lowish weapon to prevent the over damage bug

ps some perks for weapons can cause the bug also
for this reason the dremora lord is saver to use. compared to followers

simply put as long as you do low damage per hit you will be fine

I've never had an issue killing Miraak or Harkon with my own weapons. They do have a bit of script lag though, so if you're game is script heavy it can cause problems. Just make sure you have a save before the battles and you are good. Might have to replay it once or twice, if you get unlucky, but otherwise it's no problem at all.

All the above are good advice. I believe though, that Miraak's sword is leveled so at 46 and above it will be the best. Just saying.

I usually do DB at level 30 or above. However, DB is almost a side issue. Solstheim is loaded with cool stuff like the Black Books (love those bonus skills) and the rings that improve your werewolf abilities.

While his sword levels up to 60+ for the highest base damage, the enchantment on it doesn't deal any damage beyond. So something like a Stalhrim weapon of Ultimate Chaos should do more damage. Chillrend from the main game is fairly decent too, with the damage of Dragonbone along with twin enchantments to Paralyze and deal extra Frost damage.

What about the Civil War story line - do you do that first as well...?

I usually skip it entirely because it sucks.
