AFT: Making Lydia a Paladin

I've played through the original version of Skyrim (over PC and console) to not worry so much about "breaking" the game in little ways, such as making followers level up with me (removing their cap), making Meeko immortal 'cos hes a good little doggy, that sort of thing. Unless I'm doing a pure RP run, such as Kain from the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver series, I typically don't do overpowered stuff, but it is fun now and then to play as a superman.

I've never used mods in Skyrim and I would like to see if I can make Lydia into a Paladin, to travel with my current paladin character.

I'm aware of Amazing Follower Tweaks and toyed with it briefly. While I figured out how to adjust her fighting style to spell sword, give her Close Wounds, Heal Other and Turn Undead, and make sure she has the magicka to use them, she doesn't actually do so.

She still Swords and Boards and never casts. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, anyone care to help with it? I'm wllling for her to lose the ability to use a shield if she can cast her spells.

Also, just as a secondary, would these changes remain tied to the save once the mod was removed? Like, I've rewritten the characters code, sort of thing? Just would like to get some achievements in this SE edition as I've only ever played the original version before.

She main uses swords because you didn't giver her any offensive spells. Give her some combat spells and she'll use them. Use this mod to enable achievements with mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/245/?tab=description

Tried to find that one ingame, couldnt see it, i'll use NMM and get that sorted, assuming NMM is still a thing?

Thank you, got it working. How detrimental is these simple changes going to be to my save long term? Will any quests relating to Lydia break as she is a non modded npc? (Relating to the pop up that, er, pops up when selecting the Tweak Spell)
