Is progression too fast item wise?
I always find myself jumping from one tier of items to 2-3 above them. Even the loot items in chests and such do so.
I never use orchis/glass because they are outclassed by the time I'm getting them and I have access to greater tier items. (Without leveling smithing too...) Also leveling up seems rather fast.
Maybe I just played too much or are completely new people experiencing this too?

Nah they made the game level you pretty fast, both from an actual leveling and an equipment level standpoint. You go through 4 tiers of gear by level 12, and you can get to level 5 or 6 just from clearing BFB and a bandit camp or two. A handful of hours into the game and you're on your 4th tier of gear, killed a few dragons, and are in the low to mid teens (if you don't just grind crafting).

Hell, you can find Glass gear (top end Light Armor, about the 3rd best weapons) around level 25.

Thats exactly my issue. By the time I finished a main guild questline and a couple side quests I'm already way past leather/steel/elven/orchis and never have to use them even though they are cool. Sad really.

I guess they offer style options for your followers or if you get into smithing.

I would of recommended trying a mod like rebalanced level lists, but I found out how broken the one I am using is when I cleared BFB and got some stupidly over-leveled items considering I was lvl 4. If you can find a decently balanced list that provides a better distribution, that might be the ticket. As is, it feels like the level list is weighted for the player to cap at 45 and stop playing after the main story and civil war arcs.

At least for end game you can use whatever armor you want, since dr hits an engine cap that can be reached with any armor set and a smidge of enchanting abuse.

Well, since I usually do not spend too much time and perks on smithing early on, frequently it is much better for me to use low-tier highly-improved items rather than high-tier poorly-improved ones. Especially since low-tier items usually weight much less.

Skyrim is designed in such a way that you can use the stuff you like. For example: I stick with fur armor and steel weapons throughout the game (I do upgrade the bow), because that feels right to me. It suits the stealth based explorer that I created.

The downside to this is that there isn't a steady progression if you always go for the armor/weapons that have the best stats.

A possible solution is to switch playing style once in a while. I went from archery to dual-wielding with a dagger and a sword, to destruction magic and back to archery again.

If you keep switching playing styles, perks become more important than the material the weapons are made of.

Well i just play the game as i see fit but, i just see a video with first pickup weapon at lvl46+ or you wont get max damage from them.

and there was alot of secret depend on choise's we do or charecter's way of path.
and choise of weapon or ways with combo's,

so level fast do matter before picking up Rare or Unique weapons. maybe this is old news for many that know this, but most players just play the game as we see fit. nothing wrong with that, but if you want to change the way you fight doing game, then such knowledge is vital info, lol you almost need a mod with warning dont pickup that or choise path warning...rofl
and im not even sure you can make such guide/mod but it could be fun to collect such for max gameplay with best items.

predators boots and other armor/weapons choise can effect all what you do.
well maybe other have alot better guides or informations on this, then me.
community could use a master guide that try to gather all information from all person that discover them so gameplay can be more fun/crazy/or just show you diffrent playstyle, and NO you cant get them all if you dont make right ingame path and that is what i ment with a guide that try cover it all.

Yeah, I've actually halved how fast skills increase, which in turn halves your leveling speed. It seems to work out pretty well for me, since you can hit a power plateau (capping weapon/spell skills) really quickly with vanilla leveling even when you're not focused on grinding.

the first 30 level are a joke with and without mods...
then next round upto level 60 are tiny bit slower and still fast if you just train skills even unmodded
it first slows down for real at level 60+

when you want get more levels use illusion school, you can reset illusion tree endlessly for easiest and cheapest leveling inside you house at your bed
cast muffle then sleep 1h when magika is empty , repeat untill you staisfied.

befor that as long you do stuff skill related it goes up pretty fast
as long you have lover stone that all skill tree 15% faster gain all time
