[HELP] Skyrim SE CTD after starting a "New Game"
So I bought this new ROG GL702VM laptop and downloaded Skyrim SE immediatly as well as some mods, but the game failed to run with full-screen with the Imperial icon lost at the main menu after the bethesda intro. Then, the game crashed after clicking on New Game.

At first I thought there is some problem with the mods so I uninstalled all the mods and Skyrim, deleted the Skyrim SE folder in steamapp (to make sure there's nothing left) as well as the ini settings in My Game. Then I reinstalled Skyrim SE, but it still crashed the same way above.

I tried everyting like updating my windows, disabling GameDVR, disabling the Touch Keyboard thing, closing some of the useless privacy services in win10 for optimized gaming and so on. The only possible issue I can think of is the GPU driver for which I installed an old version to avoid slutter in Dark Souls 3, but the problem is not solved even after I tried to update the GPU driver to the latest NVIDIA v390 something. I also looked at the "Troubleshooting and Crash..." thread that's pinned at top, but I didnt find any problem similar to mine. Btw, I also tried most of the solutions in that thread but still. :(

This has been really frustrating and I really hope to get back to Skyrim :((

I had your problem exactly, the solution was in Onedrive. If you logged in to windows 10 with an account that was on an another computer, it transfers your core files to the new PC (Documents, Videos etc...) and Skyrim will save the ini data in the PC , but will access the one in Onedrive instead.

My solution was to create a new profile, so it won't create a onedrive file, (the problem is that you can't delete it) but i think there might be other solutions, like put the ini files in the documents file in the Onedrive one.

P.S: I know this is late, but like you i couldn't find any solutions on the internet, and i spent a week trying to find the problem, so i feel ya on this one.

Hope it helps :)

Disable your internet and see if it starts.

Have you launched Skyrim through steam so that it can rebuild the ini file?

Look into firewall, antivirus, windows defender, etc. Assuming you actually removed the mods properly and completely.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thanks Alucard!! I've solve the problem a couple of weeks ago but forgot to mention, but the solution is exactly as you said.

i uninstalled one drive and have done so much more and i still CTD after new game, if you guys have any idea how i can fix this LMK (ik im late zzzzzzzzz..)

Even though this is an older post, I thought it prudent to share a similar experience with a recent installation. Fresh install on Win 10 would lead to CTD every time "New Game" was selected. The caveat for me was that i had previously uninstalled One Drive from my PC. My solution came when i stopped using my microsoft account and used a regular local account when logging into my PC. Has worked like a charm ever since.

I'm having this same issue and I've gone through all the other fixes I've found;
Completely uninstalled OneDrive,
I'm not signed in on a Microsoft Account,
Tried pausing my Avast,
Reinstalled multiple times,

I'm sort of at a loss now.

Honestly i had this same issue, $mod symbol, and crash at new game. I stopped playing LE awhile back because the crashes were way to constant i just got SE the other day.

This is what fixed it for me,
I went to "my PC" and typed in the search bar "Skyrim", and I deleted everything that popped up.
then delete all your Mod Organizer files
Reinstalled game after this and it worked flawlessly
(I downloaded it a slow painful 3 times before figuring this out)
hope this helps some new people.
And yes SE runs 100x better than LE for people wondering, i have a crap laptop i play on.
@ALUCARD-SH @Sir Mai'ass

There is a workaround for this while using OneDrive.
Just unselect the documents folder from the files that onedrive will show on your pc
It will not let you untick the Documents but if u desellect everything in the subcategory it will be removed.
Just, before doing that, copy the entire onedrive doc folder into your ''user'' actual doc folder.

Et voila!
