vortex & previously installed mods without vortex
Hello All! :LIS_star:
So sorry for having to start a new discussion. I have searched the discussion forums to find the answer, but I must not be using the best search words. :steamfacepalm: I have not opened my SSE since before Vortex (so I'm behind on updated changes).

Here is my Q: :LIS_Arrow:
When I add mods via Vortex, I get the sneaking suspicion that Vortex is unaware of my other previously installed mods, which I can see in the mods tab when I open the game.
I suspect this only because Vortex only shows the two new adds and also seems to be reporting a problem to 'fix'.
Can anyone clarify if I need to uninstall all those mods and reinstall via Vortex?
Now that I say that, I bet that is what I am meant to do... :cozyskyrimvr:

BIG Huge Thanks for any ideas or redirection! :mind_rose:
I love Old Farts Coffee House, but I hate to disturb 'em with my outdated question. There's 2222 pages in that thread! haha! I read the most recent links to guides and the most recent comments... I must be missing something. xoxo

lada_ It never disturbs us when real questions get asked ... that's why we're here :steamhappy:

As for Vortex ... it's not going to "add" manually added mods from the data folder to it's control. Vortex works with Symbolic links in it's own virtual folders. Not the same way MO2 does, but it does still use virtual folders.

To answer your question... Yes, you would need to clean out the data folder and start from scratch using Vortex to install everything over again if you want to manage them all in one place. If you are starting over, this would be a really good time to wipe the data folder, validate your game files, and re-clean you masters. Then start fresh using Vortex. It will make your life easier in the long run not to have loose files dumped in the data folder from old builds ... a lot has been updated since Vortex came out.

And feel free to visit the farts anytime, you're always welcome

Also you'll want to update your WryeBash to the current WIP build on their discord, and xEdit to 4.0.2 as well, and don't forget to update LOOT

The Nexus Mod Manager is been created especially for Skyrim Special Edition - obviously is been used for many other games, but originally was created for SSE.

The Vortex is a BRAND NEW (with bugs and everything a NEW thing has) tool; WHY to replace a tool made ESPECIALLY for SSE... since is working like charm?

Personally I installed it once (Vortex), I saw how much complex and buggy was, and removed it and never cared again about it.

Stop spreading incorrect information, NMM was made for Fallout not SSE.
NMM is dying a slow death but it is dying.

Edit: just to be clear, the misinformation is that NMM was made for SSE, when it wasn't.
I did over step the line telling LH to convert to either MO2 or Vortex, since that's a personal decision (even if it is bleeding obvious)

I did shift to Vortex early and found a lot of issues in the beginning. I did what I always do, if having trouble sorting issues in a new program... I ceased using it. I reopened it for returning to SSE and it has improved dramatically. Jus' sayin' :arkdog:
I have installed LOOT and xEdit now... and have the WryeBash page open to go through that. :pandastunned:
I have to laugh at myself every time I begin this process for modding Skyrim.
I cannot tell whether I enjoy the game so much or whether I just cannot put down a puzzle until I solve it!! :lunar2019crylaughingpig: (in this case all the new ways to keep my mods functional).
Here she goes...! :steammocking: wyld look in her eyes...

Not even close. SE, and even LE, was made years after NMM was; so how could it be made specifically for SE? Stop and think a moment before opening your mouth and just maybe your foot won't go directly into it.
