Thoughts on Falskaar so far
SO ive been playing it for a couple hours now.. its pretty decent but.. cant help but feel its abit underwhelming with what I heard about it?

The map looks terrible in mapview which tbh is my biggest gripe so far.. but it just seems very open but not alot of dungeons unless I need to get more into it.

After afew more hours of game time I'll be back with more. But so far its not as wonderous as my expectations were lead to believe. Thoughts guys?

falskaar got a lot of praise back then because it is a DLC size mod made by 1 person.

personally it was ok-ish, not the best because of the long travel routes and not much there but I had fun when I played it back then :steamhappy:
Its defimitely not a bad mod, its got good voices and so far the plots pretty neat, but as a worldspace its just very empty

And a lot of the praise is because it was the first of its kind. Before Falskaar, there were really no DLC size mods, and certainly none done as professionally as Falskaar. Since then, there's been Wyrmstooth, Beyond Reach, The Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, and Legacy of the Dragonborn, to name just a handful. Falskaar was the first, however, and for that alone, it gets a lot of credit.

Yeah the worldspace is the biggest negative for Falskaar imo. Straight roads, flat landscape, lots of trees, long journeys from A to B without much happening along the way.

There are quite a few dungeons, forts etc, some really good ones, but the mod author put them all around the edge of the map and didn't put much in the middle. So my advice just explore around the edges and you'll find stuff to do.

For the map, I'm sure there is a mod I used on Nexus that makes the map look better. Think it was A Quality World map - Falskaar - but can't be sure (was for LE version thinking about it, but should work for SE as it was just texture files).

Yeah, it was hard to ignore the fact that it was made by one guy. There's not a lot on the map, and some of what you do see are just set pieces for the main quest line. And I always thought the map looked... inauthentic? And that's ignoring the fact that you can clearly see the edges of the ocean in mapview.

And yeah, its kinda dumb how long it takes to walk everywhere. And there's not a lot to do even. You'll find the occasional wild animal while wondering around, but that's it. And worse yet, Falskaar doesn't really work with other mods. Most won't have any effect on Falskaar at all (OBIS and monster mods are some of the ones I know of). This makes the entirity of Falskaar feel sub-par compared to the main map with all your mods.

Barney, you are almost correct (edit), it was Falskaar and Wyrmstooth Better Map With Roads, and it was based on A Quality World Map:

There was also a mod that added more wildlife to Falskaar, as well: Falskaar Wildlife Add-on -
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50246

Ported both over to my SSE game, no problem.

Also don't forget Beyond Skyrim.
