Switching weapons
So, I know I am late to the Skyrim party, and I would appreciate any help :)

I have started playing and one thing has really, REALLY started to ruin the game for me. I am hoping that I am missing something or maybe theres a mod that helps this

My issue is with changing weapons, shouts or most of all, spells.

Lets say I am using my bow, when suddenly an enemy charges me and begins attacking me up close... If I want to change from my bow to my sword I have to go into my menu and equip my sword? When I kill my attacker, I have to again open my menu, equip my restoration spell, use it, then go back into my menu and re equip my bow and arrows to continue using my ranged attacks?

Or magic...so many cool spells to do so many different things but it is so not worth going into the menu every six seconds to equip different ♥♥♥♥.
Start with destruction. Kills enemy. Switch to raise zombie from the corpse. Switch to heal companion. Switch back to destruction. Zombie dies after 60 seconds. Stop and re equip conjuration spell.
See what I mean? I end up avoiding all the shouts and magic spells because its just a hassle.

Is there some way I can just do a hot key setup?
Like...F1 equips my ranged setup, F2 equips my 2H sword, F3 is my restoration spells, f4 is destruction spells....
I know about the favorites menu and thats helpful, but not quite enough.

Is this tedious and redundant menu hopping something we get used to after a while? I am only level 9 afterall......

For a few primary weapons/spells/effects the vanilla favorites option works decently and lets you hotkey things. Go into your inventory, select what spell/item/shout/whatever you will be using often. Hit "f", which makes it a favorite. Exit out of your inventory, hit "q" that brings up your favorites menu. Highlight whatever you want on that menu. Hit any number from 1-9. That item/spell/whatever is now assigned to that number, so you just need to hit numbers to quickly switch.

If you dual weild it's a bit goofy... Select both weapons as favorites. Equip them in the hands you want. Assign a number only to the one in the right hand. If you hit that hotkey number when that primary weapon isn't equipped, you'll get both

You can set items and spells as favorites and from there you can assign them to hotkeys.

This looks great, something like what it should have been to begin with. Unfortunately my muscle memory with my current setup will screw things up, but bookmarked it.

I used IEquip a few weeks ago, pretty decent mod actually, but I wanted it mainly for showing favourited weapons on character hehe.

But in terms of what you want, it would be ideal.

Hope it helps.

This is what I use,
1=Sword
2=Shield
3=Bow
4=Healing Potion
5=Healing Spell
6=Destruction Spell
7=Destruction Spell or Poison Potion
8=Torch or Candell Light Spell

I favorite a lot of other things so you have access to them in the quick access (Q) menu. Mainly abilities from Campfire and Hunterborn.

I haven't yet, as I'm not quite ready to start a new game. I learned about it from a youtube video. I want to say Gopher showcased it, but don't quote me on that. Looked really amazing, and it's on my new-game-tryout list.
