Conjuration leveling tips? Legit please.
Im not looking for game breaking bugs or exploits. Just curious on how to level as a conjurer efficiently. i noticed simply casting a summon while out of danger doesnt raise skill. So i assume i have to have aggro, then summon for the skill up? Or is it that the damage my summons do, level the skill? Any insight on this is greatly appreciated, thankyou.

Fyi, im playing what i see as a pure summoner. Im maining conjuration obviously, using mage armor (not light or heavy armor, dont know if thats a mistake), some destruction magic on the side and im thinking some alteration for buffs and light spells and such.

I've heard conflicting opinions that mages should use either armor, or none, and im not sure exactly what is the best way of doing things. I want to mainly be a summoner, and play a support role within my solo team. any insight is helpful, thankyou.

Summoning or reanimating anything and fighting it grants experience.

When summoning creatures, you don't have to be engaged in combat at the time of casting to gain experience in Conjuration, as long as you encounter a hostile enemy before the summons vanishes.

Banishing your own summoned creatures grants experience. Banishing conjured familiars grant experience

Armor is purely personal choice, in fantasy works mages generally do not use armor.

Soul trap everything. Even if you dont have a soul gem. You can use it on dead bodies and level that way but its basically an exploit. You can go alteration and take a perk that multiplies the protections you get from oak/ iron/ ebony flesh if you dont have any armor equipped.

So what you're saying is i can summon, fight, then banish my summons for a ton of XP? or am mis-understanding that?
Mephitic Aug 3, 2019 @ 5:47pm
Not a ton, but you will level faster by combining summon and banish.
There is very valuable info in the Conjuration Gaining Skill XP section of uesp that cfs111 linked.

For the same xp you would get in normal combat. As well as xp for however you dispose of the summons, destruction, sword, bow, etc. Banish would be to use the conjuration spell to dispose of them, that would give you extra xp in conjuration.

Edit: ninja'ed

Use summoned weapons spells as well.
Faust Aug 3, 2019 @ 6:18pm
thankyou for the information, its all very helpful thankyou.

Another question, when it comes to summoned weapons. When i deal damage with the summoned weapon, is it conjuration XP or just say one handed XP?

Both. I think the one-handed/two-handed/archery skill takes the lion's share of the experience. But if your conjuration skill is low enough you'll still level it up very quickly.

That being said, once you level up your skill to about adept level you gain access to the sou trap spell from conjuration vendors. Soul trap is the most efficient way to level up your conjuration skill as you can cast it on dead bodies and it will still trigger the skill level-up. You can raise it fairly quickly between levels 30-50, after which it starts to slow down a bit. It could be considered an exploit but you can just use it on mudcrabs if it bothers you that much. Living targets and dead ones still give the same experience from what I recall.

Am i i still getting XP?

That's an exploit the unofficial patch has fixed for ages...in the LE age.

So, no, it doesnt work anymore, assuming you have the unoffical patch installed...which you should

Edit: Personally I find level speed of conjuration okayish, no need to use grindy stuff. Make sure to upgrade to the next tier asap, i.e to get access to adept spells, you need 50 - 10 = 40 conjuration, for expert, 75 - 10 = 65 conjuration.

For the first time ever I am playing a pure summoner. I only wear mage clothes, no armor. I was very concerned how I would fair. Turns out very well. I now have conjuration at 100 and can summon two Dremora Lords for 2 minutes at a time. They do so well I have never needed to summon any of the Master Level Thralls.

Interesting side note, Magicka is not as important as I thought it would be. I have enchanted nothing I am wearing, it is all "stock" as found or purchased and I never run out of Magicka. I do use the Mage Armor perks which gives me 300 armor rating when I cast Ebony Flesh. I think there is another level above Ebony, but I have not needed to look into it. As a pure conjurer I seldom get hit. I have no Destruction skills/spells other than flames, which you start with.

Surprises me.
