My enchanted weapon unnamed itself.
I crafted a dragonbone warhammer, improved it to legendary quality and then enchanted it. It had Shock damage and paralyzing enchantments. I named it "Deus Volt" and promptly set off to Soltheim with it. When I got there I noticed that it was unnamed. So I reloaded the save, reenchanted the warhammer and made sure that I renamed it. Then saved after making sure the name stuck. Then went and retraced my steps back to Solstheim. I got there and tried to hotkey my new enchanted warhammer only to find that it unnamed itself yet again.

Is this a common bug or is there some subtle censorship going on that I don't know about.

Do you have mods installed? If so which ones.

Do you you have more than one of the items you enchanted in inventory (say 1 enchanted x, 1 unenchanted x?

I have encountered a similer issue but only when I have two enchanted x with same effects but different name (named for the Companion to use it). They would sometimes get messed up and renamed by the game engine and stacked (I no longer give companions the same type weapon or armor)

Do you have it equipped or just in inventory (not out and ready for use, just equipped during the transition to solstheim? Is this the initial trip to solsteim? Have you tried not enchanting it until in solsteim (can't recall the nearest enchanter station. Think it might be a ways away).

Mods? None. Pure vanilla.

Multiple items: I have only 1 Dragon bone warhammer in my inventory. Upon enchanting it I still have 1 dragon bone warhammer in my inventory.

Equipped on first trip: Yes, this would be my character's main weapon. I had to fight a dragon that was attacking Windhelm when I fast traveled there, so it was definitely equipped.

I have not tried holding off on enchanting it. The enchantments don't become unenchanted or change in value, its just the name that deletes itself. My armor is named as well, but my armor didn't unname itself. Just my weapon. Which is strange to me and want to see if this is an isolated case or if I found a bug.

That means it's a issue with the game, damn.

Possibly is it's a glitch in the save you are loading, have you tried loading a slightly older save, and enchanting it at a different station?

Also have you tried verifiying your master files?, it's an option in the launcher btw.

My guess is that the game considers the name invalid. Did you use any special, non Ascii chars?

Did you hit enter after naming the weapon but before you hit "craft" button? If you dont hit enter it wont get named.

Did you name it "Bad ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥"?

In 5193 the Galactic Council decreed there could only be one Bad ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. This law was retroactive through time and space in all dimensions!

Literally named it "Deus Volt"

Are spaces or capital letters not allowed?

Does the same thing happen if you name it Vernon? Does the same thing happen if you name an Iron Dagger Deus Volt with another type of effect.

Try to narrow down the actual trigger or qualifier of the behaviour (the return to default name).

I can sympathize with the unhelpful responses...

I however read your post in full and was able to pay attention the whole time.

While I personally have not crossed paths with this bug (though I have with two identical items rename, also two identical item names causing one to actually lose it's enchantment altogether) I play on PC
Mine is named 'Midnight's War Blade'. It's a Stalhrim Sword enchanted with Chaos and Frost.

The name you used is valid. It should have held.

My Gf has been playing on the xbox 1. She has a Dragonbone sword named Kaos. It's been that way for several sessions on her game. (Multiple months in-game.) She recently entered Solethiem and discovered it had renamed to dragonbone sword. She reloaded back to the save she ended last nights session with. It took a few reloads to find one where it wasn't unnamed. So basically every save she had today, it was unnamed, while last nights save it was still named. I was thinking it may have been Solstheim's fault, but it had been unnamed prior to her fast travelling there. I would say that it is a bug, for sure. Still working out what triggered it, as it is the ONLY one in her inventory.

She just left her house, Windstad Manor. It just unnamed itself again..

Check to see if it unnames during any area that requires loading, like entering/ leaving a building. Could be the possibility of it being Dragonbone... though I never came across that myself while I was using dragonbone

"I can sympathize with the unhelpful responses..."

The people giving them or the people receiving them. Look we gave helpful advice...it didn't seem to work. So we just started giving bad advice to see if that worked.

When you eliminate all the helpful; only the unhelpful remains...try that.

Or do what I do and just give up and move on with your life.....like the OP probabley did. It has been over a year. They probley just left it at whatever the game wants it named. (Like I do with the word probably; hey I spelled it right that time).

Edit: and other than my quite hilarious Bad ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ post, most of that advice is solid from all posters.

IMO we need a mod that lets us rename whatever, whenever.

Except of course for @Ihateeverybody's exclusive name. LMAO over that one. I keep hearing it read by Samuel L Jackson.
