Help! CTD when fighting first dragon.

Okay so I'm getting really pissed at skyrim right now. I'm at the part where you fight the first dragon but every time the dragon gets close I get CTD. As in when it gets close enough for the red dot to appear on the compass it crashes. I have no clue what to do and I've spent hours trying to find a solution. I've been trying to try deleting my INIs but no INIs are even visible in my folders. I'm on windows 10 and have skyrim installed through steam. If anyone at all has any idea please feel free to provide them.

I'm using mods btw. Trying to find away to provide a full list without manually writing them down.

lists when someone asks to post a load order is to use a program called LOOT which can be found on nexus mods or google it for it iobit address if that suits you better but LOOT is the best way to sort your mods and paste them to steam

after that then post your load order (look for the 3 vertical dots the 3 lines sort your load order the dots are where you can copy it from there and paste here

Now there is a problem with LOOT. It detects skyrim and fallout but not skyrim SE.

I use vortex btw so I have no clue what to do. Everything I am seeing is for MO.

Also I did some testing and spawned a dragon from diverse dragons mod. That one didn't crash my game. The dragon that seems to be crashing my game is the basic tradon from the base game. The Diverse dragon I spawned had electric breathe so if it is fire that is doing this that might still be it.

Right so I can confirm the issue only occurs with Murmiir (I think that is his name) and possible other vanilla dragons. I have no idea what is causing this though. I managed to fight Murmiir for a few minutes before I got CTD. How I did that was spawning another dragon and fighting it until Murmiir appeared. The game went CTD when Murmiir landed and started fighting in melee. Usually before this though the second he gets in range it goes to CTD. This is truly annoying!

The first dragon's type changes as you level up, he doesn't have his own pre-set model and abilities like Alduin. Try spawning in every dragon added by the mod and see if any of them cause your game to crash. Perhaps spawn in the vanilla dragons too (normally his type is chosen from just the vanilla list, don't know if he can pick from the diverse collection or not).

The fact that your game only crashes when the dragon comes close is interesting. There could be something wrong with that dragon's close-up model (dragons all have two models, one for when they're close up, and a low-res low-poly version for when they're far away) or perhaps its unrelated to your dragon mods. It could be a combat mod perhaps, or maybe one of your sound mods. Looking over your list, I don't really see anything that could cause a crash like this. Can you enter combat with other things? Do other dragons make your game crash while you have the AI turned on? Another thing I would recommend is look at your mod list inside of loot. It'll tell you if any of your mods are conflicting, or if there's any kind of issue with any of them.

And how long have you had this problem? What mods have you installed since you last fought the first dragon? I'm guessing you didn't install all of these mods in one go. And personally, I find it odd you have Modern Brawl Bug Fix installed. That mod's included in USSEP I think, so having the isolated mod installed is redundant. If so, Loot will tell you that.

edit: Concerning the dragon, do you have this issue only if you're looking at him? If so, then its a graphics issue of some kind. If you say, hide in the tower where you can't see him, does that delay the crash?

Right so I've looked into everything you have suggested. LOOT seems to only have issues regarding a few compatability patches I don't have. It says I need to delete a book cover mod because antother has what it offers already.

In regards to the issue with the dragon it just keeps getting more strange. I have found out the following...

NO dragon in diverse dragons causes any form of CTD.

Even more oddly, NO dragon in vanilla/DLC makes me CTD either.

I spawned and killed on or two of every kind.

The crash happened regardless of if I looked at him or not.

Now here is the crazy part...

For the 50th time I went to fight him and guess what?

Fight went exactly as it should. No issue. Nothing...

WHAT THE DUCK!?

Everything seems fine now and I have not changed ANYTHING!

If someone can at least point to what MIGHT have happened here I'd be greatful. I want to avoid this from ever repeating.

Welcome to modding skyrim. Sometimes issues just come and go for no apparent reason. Very likely though, it will return. If you ever do figure out what's wrong, it'll likely take a while.

I would like to ask though, did you restart your computer before fighting him again? Windows 10 has a stupid issue where it constantly fills up its own RAM, which means that Skyrim will crash repeatedly for no reason if your computer has been on for around 4 or 5 hours. Yeah, windows 10 is the best. Of course, crashes caused by THIS normally aren't so specific in what triggers them. But who knows? Maybe starting that fight puts more data into RAM than other things normally do. Oh well, at least you got past that dragon. Now lets see if you have issues with the other pre-scripted fights.

Windows will empty ram but not pagefile, which is virtual memory.

Still, could be the source of the problem if OP has low physical memory.

I infact did restart my computer to get LOOT. But the issue occured three more times after that happened.

Something else really odd I noticed a few minutes after the fight was that all my settings were reset. My sensitivity, sound sliders, ect.

That might be a clue to what caused this but I don't know enough to say for sure.

To my immediate knowledge 25 is suppose to load before 18 on your load order. The dragon may not have been the source of the issue, but some other asset loading in.
