Building a Home without Skilling Up Smithing (no Mods or Glitching)
I've found a way to do this but I'm wondering if there's a more efficient way.

I build Nails/Hinges ect and before the Smithing Bar fills I punch a guard, sleep off Jail (which Resets my smithing bar) and repeat the process.
Is this the only way or is there a non-modding way to get the nails/hinges/locks without smithing?

The goal is to do as much as possible without raising ANY skills and keeping the Level Bar EMPTY (no mods no glitches) IE: Not bucketing thru doors or glitch-skipping quests
I was able to do the entire Thieves Guild questline WITH all the bonus items for Delvin AND all 4 city influence quests while keeping my exp bar empty.
Edit: Yes even Summerset Shadows without killing Niranye
(The Tower Stone has been a lifesaver to avoid skilling lockpicking)
Edit: QUICK FYI ARGONIANS can pick EXPERT and lower locks without gaining 1 skill point.
I believe this is because they have a starting 25 lockpicking

Why not just appoint a steward and have them build the additions (You pay for materials). It might not be this simple (I don't recall). But I think it might be. Read up on stewards, they might not be appointable until a certain amount of building is done.

Edit: Also check smiths misc and general stores misc for materials. Its been so long since I played vanilla I am not sure if the materials are added by vanilla or one of the mods I have.

The stewards can only furnish what you've built. Building the house/main hall/additions seems to fall completely onto the Dragonborne.
Smiths and general stores don't carry Nails/Locks/hinges/Fittings to my knowledge.
If a in-game, non-mod vendor carries them I'd really like to know who and where

I know you typed "non modding way" But the only non modding ways is to cheat the system. At least it seems natural for a smith to make building supplies and allow the local store to sale them.

You can use the mod Riverwood traders has building materials. Then purchase all the supplies, no need to smith any.

I also use a mod that "turns off" skill leveling. The only way to level skills is through a book or a trainer. Either way does what you are asking for but you seem anti mod, shrugs

A more important question is WHY are you dead set exploiting the system to not level up your skills at all?
Onikage Nov 7, 2019 @ 3:54pm
The same reason people do speedruns, or try to kill alduin at level 1 on legendary difficulty? Extreme/Silly challenges are quite common so a more important question is WHY NOT
Anywho
Got inspired by a youtube channel YMFAH. They have a 0 crime full thieves guild run, 0 spells learned/cast full mage college run and a full Dark Brotherhood 0 assaults/murders run

Oh, and a "Kill Alduin with only a bow (but no arrows) Run" LOL

Appreciated but no thanks. Skill decay being part of the prison system and using it to not skill blacksmithing while crafting feels moreso within the standard rules of the game so I guess I'll stick to that.

Sounds pointless. If you dont want to level up just dont visit the perk page, ever.

Sooner or later you will skill up in something anyway.

Your opinion has been duly noted.

Although I play a different way/style than you onikage, I understand. I have always been of the opinion people should play a single player game anyway they see fit. They paid the money, they should do what brings them joy. I hope you find that "mechanic" that allows you to enjoy your play. 07

07... haven't seen that gesture since Eve Online

Played EVE for 12 years, but also as a military retiree, I like the salute.

There is a more efficient way.

It's called... MINECRAFT

Just add the nails and ♥♥♥♥ through the console if you're going to be this pedantic about it. It's no less exploit-y than what you've already been doing.

Screw Minecraft. It doesn't need any more sales. Get the OP a Kenshi.

Edit: or at the very least a My Time at Portia.
